Guest Designer: Brigitta Budahazi

Art Journal with Flowers

Hi Everyone! This is Brigitta Budahazi here again. This is my fourth post here, on StencilGirl Talk Blog as a Guest Designer. I hope you will like this project.

Stencils I use:Traci Bautista’s Tropical Floral Stencil and Carolyn Dube’s Wall of Words Stencil
In this post I will show you how I made a new two-pager in my art journal using the mentioned two beautiful stencils from the StencilGirl. The process itself was quite simple I used only a few things: white gesso as a primer, dye inkpads in several colors, oil pastels and a UNI Posca pen (white color). Hope you will like this technique and you will use it in the near future.

1.       First I applied two layers of white gesso (Pentart Primer).
Since I have an old Moleskien calendar what I named as my ‘art journal’, before applying the gesso,
I needed to put masking tape in the middle to cover the binding and prevent leaking other pages.

2.       Next I stamped flowers with Versa Mark Watermark ink and foam stamps.

3.       Then I tore paper to use as a mask.
I chose three shades of green dye inks, and applied them with a sponge. I applied really light layers, since I wanted to make some kind of hilly scene. Although you will see I totally covered these layers later I was really delighted at this point how my layout turned out. J

4.       I stenciled a part of Carolyn’s Wall of Words Stencil.
I simply pressed the inking pad on to the surface which I temporarily fixed with masking tape. I liked that compare to the shades of the background the ink was dark and I achieved a clear look of the inspiring and motivating text (which I love so much!)

5.       I stenciled some flowers around the text, using Tropical Floral Stencil.
I used the same technique as I did in the Step 4: pressed the whole inkpad onto the surface.
Here I used pink, yellow, red, orange and blue dye inks.

6.       After checking my paper stash I chose a scrapbook paper from Tim Holtz’s Seasonal papers, and stenciled some flowers with the same shades of inks. Later I cut them out and glued onto the pages, around the text.

7.       Then I felt my layout needs some contrast – so I outlined the flowers with oil pastels and drew a border around the text.

8.       Finally I added some white spots with a UNI Posca pen– and my new art journal was ready to motivate me in the future.

It was a pretty easy project, with only a few products to use. So do not hesitate to try this out.
Here you can see the finished project and some close-ups.

Thank you so much for the opportunity. I am so glad and proud that I could share my tips with you, here on StencilGirlTalk.
I would be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding this project.

    1. Thank you so much, Denise! First I thought it will be too much, too intensive. But at the end I was OK with it. :) You can't get enough of colors, can you?
