Art Tags with StencilGirl Products & Distress Crayons

Hi! It’s Brigitta here!

Today I’m sharing the creative process of making three “twin” tags. I love creating tags using mixed-media techniques. But this was the first time when I have made more than one tag at the same time. Let me show you the process itself step-by-step. Let’s get started!

1.                  First I colored some lines with all of the six colors of my Distress Crayon Set onto a sheet of a watercolor paper. Then, using a Mini Mister and a waterbrush, I blended them with water. I found the result beautiful – it reminded me a sunset or a sunrise.
2.                  Next I grabbed a baby wipe and the Tropical Floral Stencil and started to remove the pigment layer from the watercolor paper. If you find your colored layer became too vibrant, this is an easy way to make some lighter patterns, since these type of crayons react with water. The area which was “bleached” with the baby wipe didn’t become completely white. As I rubbed the paper, the wipe mixed the colors and the “stenciled” result was more desaturated than the original layer. And I liked that.
3.                 For the next step I stenciled the three words: wonder, inspire and imagine using the same stencil and black acrylic paint. Then I traced the beautiful silhouette of the Wildflower Bouquet Stencil with a gel pen and colored the design later with a Sharpie (Edding).
4.                  I love using the Starlight stencil when I like to achieve some tiny “random” splashes or dots on my mixed media creations. Using this stencil makes it easier for me to make little dots here and there instead of using brushes. If I do this way, I can use any kind of paint materials and I can control where those little dots will go. So, as a final touch, using this stencil, a plastic card and white heavy gesso, I made some tiny white dots here and there on the surface.
5.                 And why did I call my tags twins in the beginning of my post? Because as you have noticed I made one background which later has been cut into three parts – using my Sizzix and a tag shape die. Then I glued my tags onto two layers of coordinating cardstocks, put on some diecuts, some ribbons and metal flowers. And, the three “twin” tags have been ready to put on display.

Here you can see the finished project and some close-ups:
I hope you liked my project and will try these techniques in the future! I would be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding this project. You can contact me through my blog or on Facebook.

May I have your permission to use a photo or two from here, in my blog? Giving you full credit, of course! If you want to check out my blog, it's here -- http://heartworkbycecilia.blogspot.com. Also -- I want to comment that I love the way you inserted these beautifully scripted words into the flower design!
