Stencil it! Wear it! Stenciled Sneakers with Silvia Souza

Hello again! Silvia here.

I belong to an art group that meets once a month, JAMS (Judy’s Altered Minds).  We exchange ATCs, ideas, information about resources and share our latest projects. Several of the members (Kathie and Nancy) have been creating wonderful projects using stencils on Harbor Freight canvas bags, recycled purses and sneakers.  Being an art sponge, I had to try out the idea.

I used StencilGirl® stencils along with Sharpie and Krink paint pens on $10 black sneakers from Target.  I took the shoelaces off before stenciling. Then I embellished with a Pilot Gold Marker.

My trick to stenciling on a curved surface: Basically I held one shoe with my hand inside and at the same time held the stencil in place wrapped around it while I drew with the paint markers with my other hand.  Then went back in and recolored as on black some of the color sunk right in.  Then I was able to embellish over the stenciled work.
