Pulling Apart A Stencil

Happy New Year Stencil Lovers!
Janet here with some insight on how I
pull apart a stencil and use bits and pieces of it.

I view stencils as tools.
I can use them any way I want.
This part...That part...
Focal points...Background textures...Beautiful Borders...
All's fair in Love and Art!

Take Maria McGuire's butterfly stencils...
There is so much detail in each one of these.

The border is part of the butterfly body...

This side border is a different part of the butterfly body....

The different sized flowers are part of a wing....

This part of the wing reminded me of an exotic flower.

So that is what I did.
It is a great beginning to a Daily page.

In my Daily I make many medallions...
I used a part of the butterfly body to make the flower petals on this one...

Another good beginning on a Daily spread...

I used this same butterfly from the Duo Stencil on these next two spreads...
Here...
And here....

On this next one I used the bigger butterfly and centered it differently.

Just for a little change of pace....

And lastly...
I start out many pages with abstract kind of borders.
I used this part of the body to create a pattern....

And then I used the little pattern from the wing
and bordered the outside of the page.

There are so many different ways to use a stencil.
Sometimes you just need to use fresh eyes when you look at them!
Just think of all the possibilities on the StencilGirl website!
Happy Arting!

One StencilGirl Stencil.... Same But Different!

This is how it started.....
 designed by Jamie Fingal.
I was thinking how versatile this stencil is
and how I could probably use it in my Daily every day!
I know that would not end well...
But it got me to thinking about what a great tool it would be....
****If I taught a class in doodling a Daily****
Out came my extra book....
Second version.......
That was Fun!
I grabbed the wrong book for my third version...
But still awesome!
I like how the little squares became blue bricks.
Fun Fun Fun!
I HAD to do a Black and White for version number four.
I used a hand carved chair stamp...
which made me think about porches and friends.
Back to my extra book (now a teaching tool) for version number five...
I used a random date with letter stamps.
It totally reminds me of that Edward Hopper painting Nighthawks.
More Fun!
The blue bricks from version number three
influenced my red bricks.
A Christmas page, of course....
And one more...
Next to the Dec 25 page is my last one....
a Happy New Year Version.
Complete with snow flakes
and a dreamy stained glass kind of window.

Three elements on one stencil,
seven times,
and I only touched the tip of the iceburg!

Which is your favorite?

What Fun!
Visit my Blog
and see the other things I do in my Daily.

Thanks for visiting!

Only THREE more days!

Hi everyone, it's Maria!
What a wonderful, inspiring week we had for our first "official week" on the StencilGirl Talk Blog! Thank you to everyone that visited. Let me tell you, we are just starting. You will be amazed at what is coming.

Today I just wanted to remind you that there are only 3, yes THREE, more days to sign up for the July StencilClub EXCLUSIVE stencils by Sue Pelletier. I thought you might like to see what I made with them. Let me tell you these are a must have! Tomorrow I will have a post on my own blog showing you my process in making this journal page.

If you missed our Sneak Peek with a video from Sue you can see it HERE. We close sign-up's on the 10th to get these stencils, so once they are gone...they are GONE! You can find out more about StencilClub and the membership HERE.

Come back tomorrow when we will have a tutorial from Creative Team Member Marjie Kemper!

Have a great Sunday!
Maria
