Papercrafting Tutorial with StencilGirl Stencils

Dare to Fly Card

This is Brigitta Budahazi here again. This is my second card making tutorial here on StencilGirl Talk. I hope those who liked the previous one, the StencilGirl Stencils and Craft Knives, will like this one also. In this post I will show you how to make custom patterned papers, custom embellishments and even custom patterned ribbons for your projects using StencilGirl stencils. So, here we go!

Stencils I usedTracie Lyn Huskamp’s Swallows Stencil, Lesley Riley’s Starlight Mini Stencil, Daniella Woolf’s Succulents Stencil and Carolyn Dube’s Wall of Words Stencil
1.                 I have started my project with tracing two swallows onto black cardstock with a white Sakura gel pen and Swallows Stencil. Then, using sharp scissors I cut them and turned them upside down, since I did not want the swallows to be outlined. So here I made two elegant embellishments using this beautiful stencil.

2.                 Next, using the Groove tool from Art-C, I made two custom patterned paper from Bazzill cardstocks and Heavy Gesso from Prima’s ArtBasics with Starlight Mini Stencil and Succulents Stencil. The reason I used Heavy Gesso instead of liquid acrilyc paint was the body of this medium. Using this great tool, the Groove, gesso doesn’t go under the detailed patterned stencil and it makes a bit thicker layer then liquid paints. I liked also the structure of the results, so that’s why I preferred gesso this time.
3.                 Then, I have decided to make another customized embellishment for my card: a patterned ribbon! The organza ribbon has shiny and non-porous surface, so you need waterproof ink if you want to stamp or paint on it. Using an ink blender tool I stenciled some words of Wall of Words Stencil with black StazOn ink. I was pretty delighted with the result, now I have the fourth customized element for my card!

Here you can see the finished project and some close-ups.

Thank you so much for the opportunity. I am so glad and proud that I could share my tips with you, here on StencilGirlTalk. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding this project.
