Mixed Media Inspiration Deck Blog Hop

Maria here....today I am playing with the new Mixed Media Inspiration Deck from Kiala Givehand
What is this deck and how would you use it?
The Mixed Media Inspiration Deck
is the newest product from the Giving Hands Creative studio.

52 inspirational guide cards designed to inspire
your mixed media and art journaling practice.

The cards feature a variety of directives to guide you through your art practice as you play, explore, discover, and create. There are many ways to use the deck.
  • PLAY -- deal yourself a few cards then let your muse take over!
  • EXPLORE -- shuffle the entire deck, then pull one card at a time and see what you're inspired to create
  • DISCOVER -- keep the deck near your art table and pull a card as needed
  • CREATE & COLLABORATE -- create with a friend (or a group of friends). Round robin style journaling infused with a dash of serendipity. What could be more fun???

I dealt myself a hand and then I made a little video to show you my process through the page.
You can also watch it on YouTube HERE.

  2. I get lost when it come to doing art. i am stuck on perfection and get frustrated with myself easily. i think this deck can be really helpful for me because i do follow directions. i make my own stencils to use with my gelli plate I've never used them any other way. so these prompts will force me to pull them out and use them in my journal too.

  3. I'm sure this deck would definitely get me out of my creative box! I love the freedom and spontaneity of the cards; you don't have to think about what to do next, they tell you! And you can choose to do what it says or not. And knowing there's a card already suggesting to use more than one stencil would encourage me to use what I have more often.

Going through the "Yucks" was definitely worth it!! The end result is wondrous!

  4. I loved your video. I LOVE stencils and have many. I often get stuck on what to do next after using a stencil. I think this deck would be a great help to my muse so we can get unstuck !

  5. Great video - know exactly that 'yuck moment' and then coming out into the light (on a good day!). And what light in your final page - I love those vivid colours emerging from the black. Love the deck, and even though I don't need much encouragement to use stencils, I think it would really encourage me to grab for the less-used ones to layer even more together... it's a great tool.

  34. WOW! That butterfly has been through some amazing metamorphoses. There is often a point in a painting where you don't know where to go next. These cards would be a way to solve this and combined with stencils there is no limit to what you could do.

  47. I have learned so much from this blog hop. I love what you have done with this journal page. It just goes to prove my thoughts that these cards perform so many duties from giving prompts, to teaching how to add layers. What a great tool

    ReplyDelete
  48. Very nice, Maria. I enjoyed your voiceover for the video, too! I love musings artists go through.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Since starting is always the hardest part for me, I would use the prompts as a jumping off point. I use stencils in everything from paper to fiber work so there would be stencils used, prompt or not :) textilerecycler@yahoo.com
