I would so love to do this. I need to do this. I am trying to figure out why I have such a hard time with self - care. I can't even begin to imagine why other women do! But I think so many of us feel like we're not entitled to stop, slow down, be still. It's a mix of societal pressure, the crazy digital world we live in and our disconnect from nature, and the era we grew up in which defined us by our accomplishments. Thank you for offering such a wonderful give away! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!ReplyDelete
This would be incredible. Thanks for the chance to win.ReplyDelete
I would love to win this. Taking care of my terminally ill elderly dad is all time consuming and leaves little me time. This would be wonderful.ReplyDelete
This is so true that we don't give ourselves enough self-care. After the last 6 months I've just gone through, this would be a breath of fresh are for ME.. for my soul. Thank you.ReplyDelete
Wow what a wonderful gift this would be. I am always caring for others but don't have the time just for me. Thank you for the chance to win!ReplyDelete
I have a tenancy to never say no to anyone and then I find myself taking care of everyone else but myself. This would be a wonderful journey to take care of me and journal at the same time. I love to make art journals and collage, but I get stuck when it's time to actually put words on paper. Thank you for your consideration!ReplyDelete
I will speak for myself and say that I have a hard time with self-care because, from a young age, I was taught to put other peoples' needs first. I was told that I could do or be anything so sometimes I feel like that means I need to do it all, all at one time. So if I'm trying to do it all and am putting everyone else's needs first, self-care gets shifted so far down the to-do list that it doesn't happen. I'm hoping that Soul Comfort can help me detach from other peoples' behavior, focus a little more on what I really want out of the holidays rather than what's expected, and help me keep that deep sense of peace so that life can't spin me out of control.ReplyDelete
Women are genetically made to nurture and care for others, which often leaves little time for themselves. And while it wouldn't be right to think of yourself first, the message that we need to at least "think" about ourselves gets lost.ReplyDelete
I think this class could provide a needed boost to my sagging spirit during this year's holidays. I've lost several people dear to me over the past couple years (husband, father, mother, and one brother-in-law), and it's hard to think ahead to holidays coming when we don't know how to continue traditions that need to be altered, if that makes any sense. I need some confidence that the future can be bright, and I still matter.
Thanks so much for the opportunity.
Wow this looks like a beautiful class. I've heard about the Brave Girls Club, but never really looked into it.I can only say for myself that I have a problem with self care....because of me. The pressure I put on myself, the desire to reach every goal,to be the involved mom,and supporting wife,to be a good listener,to do it all...because in my heart,I feel like every minute counts. But this also means that I leave less time for myself. I've been thinking lately that I miss my camping days...not just because of the gatherings, but because I miss being by myself in the mornings with Grace and Nature. The sound the breeze,I can hear them now...and want to be there again. Wow,I can ramble on here...thanks for the opportunity.xoxoReplyDelete
I think that most women are just natural caregivers to everyone - kids, parents, husband, friends, etc. and when they are finished they have nothing left physically, emotionally, spiritually for themselves. Most of us (me included) sometimes have a difficult time understanding that a happy wife, mother, friend = a happy life.ReplyDelete
Although I love the holiday season, it's not the same without my Dad and he's been gone 10 years! Maybe this will help boost my love of the season again.
But, no worries, if I don't win, I'll be happy knowing that spirit gave it to someone else who needed it more than me. Take care ya'll! Tish (tishreed58 at yahoo.com)
Women are created to be a caregiver, it gives us joy to serve our families. We get caught up in making sure everyone’s needs are met. Personally it makes me truly happy to do what I do. This class will help me to simplify in every area of my life I am certain. I want to focus on me so I can be soul happy and not the tired, stressed Miss Grumpy pants.ReplyDelete
That is a wonderful testimonial to the beauty of Brave Girls Club and how it can change a person's life! Love you Maria and so glad we have been brought together!ReplyDelete
:) Many many hugs Maria! I would love to do this course with ya! I think we, as women, just have a natural tendency to give everything of ourselves to those we see in need. I know that when I take time for myself, I feel selfish and even lazy... like I could be doing so much more to help others. Right now, with everything that is going on in my life, and with the holidays coming up (and the new challenges they present thanks to moving back to be near family), I know I am going to need to make time for myself to relax and enjoy it, or it will just become a season of "what now?" and trying to complete a very long to-do list.ReplyDelete
Love you, sweet, brave sister! Thank you for this opportunity. :)
I'm just learning to take care of myself... 2 years ago we lost my MIL to Dementia after being her primary caregiver for 4 years. I was lost in the beginning and didn't know what to do with myself...slowly I am learning that I have to take pf me first in order to be able to take care of the things that matter to me. It's a hard lesson to learn . I would love to win this class to connect with others who want to learn this lesson too.ReplyDelete
Congrats to the Seth Apter stencil winners! Re: Brave Girls Club - I took their Soul Restoration course in 2010 and it changed me. It was the first online course I had ever taken and it was the first time I had ever tried any kind of art class. It cracked me wide open and got me on this exciting artistic journey. I have been eying the Soul Comfort class - it would be amazing to win a spot - THANKS for the chance Maria!!ReplyDelete
...taking care of my now disabled veteran husband, and recently..recovering from the May 2013 Moore Oklahoma tornado...I feel lost from me...disconnected and restless. I read through the comments already posted. I know I am not alone. I am reaching out and reconnect, nuture, bring comfort and peace to my soul through art and creativity. I would love the opportunity to attend this class!ReplyDelete
What a wonderfully inspiring class! For myself relaxing and self care are a huge challenge, because I feel like I need to be constantly on the go and creating something every moment. It feels selfish to take time purely for me. I am dealing with some serious health issues and some could be really helped if I just took the time and slowed down. This class sounds full of wonderful lessons!ReplyDelete
I think women have a hard time with self care... possibly due to their thought's on "self worth". If one doesn't respect oneself enough they might let things go to the wayside. If they are people pleasers they might have a hard time setting boundaries which in turn wears them down because they are always doing for others. Not being able to say no and in turn taking time for oneself. Know your worth. There are many reasons why and each is dependent on the woman.ReplyDelete
I think this class would help me in any situation including the holidays. What a great opportunity to learn something to reconnect with that which includes art. I would love to be able to make art on the go. There are times at work when there's no one around and no work to be done.. would love to sit and do something at my desk, or even during my lunch. To get thru the holiday season... it would be a blessing indeed.
Thank you for the chance. M
Always love Melodys classes. Would love to win a place in this one!ReplyDelete
I think one of the many reasons women have a hard time giving to themselves is because they have been pre-programed to be the caregivers of everyone around them and the 'self' is therefore the last in line! dottididit(at)gmail(dot)comReplyDelete
I feel guilty putting myself first. I feel like I have to take care of everyone else, and maybe if there's time I can do something for me. As for the holiday season, I will learn to focus on family, not on the gifts, decor, overeating. I will enjoy the season, not dread it <3ReplyDelete
Wow! What a wonderful giveaway! Women have always been taught to look after others first...spouses, children, parent...we always put ourself last because we don't want to be seen as selfish. This class sounds fabulous! We all need to take care of ourselves so that we will be better able to continue nurturing those around us!ReplyDelete
I believe women have a hard time making time just for themselves, their own self-care because we've been raised to take care of the needs of others (ie. parents, husbands, children, church...) first, leaving little or no time for ourselves. I guess it's a guilt-thing. And, of course, it's wrong. If we don't take care of ourselves first, we won't be able to properly help others. (Yes, I keep telling myself this, lol). As a disabled person suffering from neck/back injuries, fibromyalgia and more, I'm not able to travel to classes and workshops, so an online course works perfect for me. Pain causes stress and worry, so I desperately need a reminder of self-care and grounding. I rely on my art journals for pain relief, so this course would be so beneficial to me. Thanks for the chance:) Oh, I am now following/subscribed to Brave Girls Club, so many thanks for the introduction to this wonderful site:)ReplyDelete
Thank you for a chance to win. My body has been cared for now my soul would love some nurturing! Thanks for a chance!ReplyDelete
This class sounds perfect to me. We women never have time for ourselves. Having something that is going to help me to heal, nurture my soul through art, sounds wonderful, and learning new things that will help me anytime, anywhere I go, sounds like paradise. Thank you very much for the opportunity.ReplyDelete
Simple, only a few supplies and relaxing, sounds wonderful to me!ReplyDelete
As women, we feel guilty if we take time to ourselves to relax. "Watching your shows and eating bon bons" is the stereotype women who stay at home get on a regular basis. I am fortunate to have a man that does not follow that stereotype, but I still have guilty feeling of 'wasting time' when I take some for a sanity break.ReplyDelete
This would be a big help for me at Christmas time as, like a lot of women, when Christmas gets closer and closer my anxiety rises about the things I wish I could do but have to resign myself with "maybe another time".
Thank you for the chance to win this inspiring class!
I love the title of this class, after going through some intense Soul Restoration and making some very major changes to my life's path, I am like most women, overwhelmed and looking for a little TLC for the soul.ReplyDelete
Women are nesters and nurturers--always taking care of others and the home. I think sometimes we feel guilty if we indulge ourselves by doing something that is just for us. Thank you for the opportunity to win this class.ReplyDelete
I think women have a hard time with self care because we give so much of ourselves away constantly that there is little time or energy left for ourselves. This class would be awesome for me as the fall months are my favorite time of year and I would rather be focused on soul comfort during this time of year than of hectic holiday stress.ReplyDelete
Thanks & great blog!
I think that women have trouble with self care is that we are made to feel as if we are supposed to be caring for everyone else's needs. If you do something for ourselves, it is seen as selfish or lazy.ReplyDelete
This class would help me get through the holidays by giving me something to focus on *instead* of the holidays. It is a notoriously stressful time for me and every year I can't wait for December 26!
It's difficult for me to answer those two questions as I do not have children, do not work outside the home...or have the same stresses that maybe the average woman faces. But I can say from my experience how I feel this course might benefit me - not just during the holidays but throughout the entire year.ReplyDelete
I have been in a wheelchair my entire life. And although I consider myself incredibly blessed, I have to admit, it's difficult sometimes living in a world where others may not always understand the daily struggles you face. And so, I think this course might teach me to relax more, enjoy the simple things in life, and hopefully not to be so hard on myself. Because sometimes I truly believe that in itself, is my biggest struggle.
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity!
I don't know if I can speak for other women but for me it's because I don't think I deserve it...don't deserve to take time for me. I think in my head society has put the label of taking time for yourself/myself as being lazy... I should be doing something more important. I often wonder why I don't feel I'm important.ReplyDelete
As far as this helping get through the up coming holidays, I think more importantly it would help me get through life.
I have been wondering how to do this...take time for me... often lately, I think/hope this class would help. I hope I win (I know that sounds selfish...) I hope I can participate either way.
Thank for this opportunity!
What a wonderful idea. AS women we spend so much on caring for others and we forget about ourselves!!ReplyDelete
historically woman were made to feel guilty when making time for themselves.... with so much change this has been slow to evolve. i think we want it all and there just isn't enough time in the day so something has to give & it's usually "us" time. at the holidays more than any other time i think this class would really help to change my thought process and make time for me without feeling selfish because ultimately i would be a better person for my familyReplyDelete
I believe that women are so kindhearted and selfless that we forget about ourselves. When I do have some free time to do what I want I often feel guilty for doing so. I would love to earn a free spot in this class and I think that the holidays are an especially stressful time in my life. I think that the class will help me take time for myself with less guilt.ReplyDelete
My soul has been shut into a wee box for nearly 3 years! After loosing my spouse I have been on auto pilot and I am just finally coming from a very numb state. This would be such a help to get me focused on healing!ReplyDelete
I think that women have a hard time with self-care because it's just built into us to care for others. We tend to sacrifice, even unnecessarily, for others before we ever think of ourselves. I think this class would be helpful through every single season of life!ReplyDelete
I love Melody and Brave Girls and would love to win the class. I am going through a really rough divorce right now and would jump at the opportunity to have a little soul comfort. Thank you so much for the opportunity.ReplyDelete
hope I win thanks for the chanceReplyDelete
Most of us have such busy lives that we end up on autopilot and forget to nourish ourselves. This class would help us to remember our deepest selves.ReplyDelete
I have a hard time with self-care because I have a tendency to put everyone else's needs before my own. As a mom of 5 it seems like there is always something that needs to be done and it doesn't include me taking time for myself.ReplyDelete
I think the class could help me re-focus on what's important during this holiday season.
Thanks for a chance to win!
The hand sewing does look relaxing!ReplyDelete
Breathe in the nose out the mouth...!
I think for some of us, we don't do self care because we don't feel worthy of it. I used to love the holidays, but the last couple years, I haven't enjoyed them. This class will help with holiday enjoyment by giving me the chance to breathe through them.ReplyDelete
What a wonderful and generous giveaway!ReplyDelete
Would love to learn to relax more during the busy holiday season.
Watched all three videos, and this class looks great!
In general, women don't take time for self care because of other commitments we make to ourselves and others, often putting our self last. This class would enhance my creativity and give me a head start on taking time for myself and getting some home-crafted gifts made for my family and friends. Thanks for the chance to win!ReplyDelete
Congrats to all of the winners! Very lucky ladies, all. :) <3 CandyReplyDelete
Thanks for the giveaway! BGC classes are so inspiring at this one comes at such a great time. Enriching our souls to prepare for the holiday season. Keeping things in perspective!ReplyDelete
I think women have a hard time with our own personal self care because we are giving and we have a habit of putting others before ourselves. As a wife and mother, active church member, active school mom, housewife...... I always feel so guilty if I want to sit down for 10 minutes and relax, What is my definition of relax? never stop!! of course, I'm sure that through soul comfort I will learn the true definition of relax.ReplyDelete
How will this help get through the holiday season: I think by learning to simplify our lives then we can take a look at how we overwhelm ourselves during the holidays and do to much. Why not simplify the shopping, the entertaining, the go go ing and just really focus on the meaning of the season.
That my friend is my goal after taking soul comfort.
Thank you for this opportunity to win
I am so full of joy and gratitude for the Brave Girls group and your willingness to host their contest!! You play an important role in spreading the yummy inspiring goodness of Brave Girls Club!ReplyDelete
Many women are programmed from early ages that others matter more – that we should care for them before using our energy for ourselves. I’ve taken a bold step in deciding NOT to do what my family expects this holiday season – but know that it will be SO hard to change these dynamics!!! Soul Comfort will help me listen to the my Inner Wisdom and not crumble back into doing what everyone else wants because my Inner Mean Girl says “they are more important!”. Soul comfort seems like just the ‘gift’ my soul and heart deserve! Again thanks for hosting!
FLY = First love yourself.. Would love to win...ReplyDelete
I think that woman sometimes traditonal have more of a caregiving role in families and we therefore end up caring for everyone else and put ourselves last. I know that is how it was in my family of origin. This course would really help me get through the holiday season because I have had a very difficult year. This summer I spent 12 weeks in a trauma treatment centre due to longstanding childhood abuse. As a result I have depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder. I think that soul comfort would provide me with some time to really have me time, connect with myself, continue on with some of the skills I learned in treatment, allow myself to open up to art therapy, and express myself in a different way, it would give me a positive connect knowing that other woman out there were doing the same course I was, I think being connected by video right now to melody would really help my healing and strengthen my soul and my positive coping skills. Thank you so much for this opportunity!! Autumne_horan@hotmail.comReplyDelete
I believe, as women, we were created to nurture. Sometimes we get so bogged down with nurturing those both near and far, that we forget to take the time to be nurtured ourselves. And most of all to know it's "okay" to think about ourselves too.ReplyDelete
When I think of Soul Comfort, I think of that moment when I feel loved, protected, and at peace. Peace is seriously lacking right now. I would want to take this class to learn how to find a place of peace and rest among all the turmoil around me. Thank you for this opportunity to take this class. Winning this class would be the only way I could take it right now.
I think we are so consumed with taking care of everyone else, we forget ourselves!! Holidays are hard since I lost my mom 10 years ago this year. I think focusing on my own soul would help me take care of me. Thanks for the chance to win!ReplyDelete
My primary focus in life is to raise healthy, happy, strong and independent daughters. Over the past year, I have made a bit of progress in taking better care of myself and my daughters have noticed. One of the ways I have done this is by creating more often. It calms me and takes my mind off an incredibly stressful life situation our family is currently experiencing. Fall/Winter is very busy for our family - mixed in with the regular holidays are my wedding anniversary and both of my daughters' birthdays. This year will be especially difficult for us financially. I would like to take this class because I know I will need all the help I can get to make it through the final months of this year. Thank you for the opportunity to win a spot in the Soul Comfort class!!ReplyDelete
Brave Girls Club has changed my life. Thanks for sharing this give-away!ReplyDelete
I have a hard time with self-care because as a stay at home mom, my job isn't 9 to 5, it's 24/7. I think the class will inspire me to take time to create things for myself this holiday season.ReplyDelete
For me, soul comfort is an opportunity to nourish and nurture the core of who I am and what I am to others, I am mother, wife, friend, daughter, sister..... In many if these role my job is to nurture and support others. As much as it is a blessing to be everything to everyone, it is very easy to lose who you are to yourself. I turn to comfort foods and items (I.e. a warm fuzzy bathrobe), I look for comfort in the arms of my partner and friends, in the security that my children are safely tucked in at night, but it is harder to turn to what truly feeds my soul.... Creativity, art, time to explore who I am irrespective of the other influences in my life. The opportunity to participate in the soul comfort e class will enable me to put myself first, if even for a little while. It offers the opportunity to be disciplined and inspired in the feeding of my creative spirit, who to me is truly the essence of who I am. Thank you for this opportunity.ReplyDelete
We as women have a difficult time with self care because we are naturally the nurturers. We take care of everyone else but ourselves and even feel guilty when taking time and doing something for ourselves. We end up finding ourselves lost, tired and depleted, unable to give our best to ourselves and those we love. So taking this course would help me in getting down to the “soul comfort” of nurturing my own soul. I’m hoping this course can bring a calmness and peace that is so desired in my life.ReplyDelete
I think wimmin neglect themselves because they are expected to derive all their nourishment through caring for others whether their family, friends or co-workers. They must force themselves to carve out time for only them, and face criticism from others for doing so.ReplyDelete
I personally do not have problems with the holiday season. I am looking for tools to do more than cope with the challenges in my life.
The sewing projects show seem detailed and complicated, but I can see how I could simplify them. Decorating a large bag with embroidery is beyond my skill and patience. I hope alternatives are provided.
Wonderful prize. Thanks for the opportunity.ReplyDelete
You have awesome stencils! I hope I win!ReplyDelete
Why do you think women have a hard time with self care? And how do you think thisReplyDelete
Brave Girl class might help you get through the holiday season?
I am in school for my second career. I am majoring in art history. I was just studying about Evelyn Cameron a photographer in the late 1800s. She left a privileged life to marry and move to Montana. She wanted to "lead a life worthy to look back upon" She ran a ranch alone for 15 years in her old age.
My point women do what they have to do, and most of the time that leaves little for themselves. As artist we need, crave, breath an outlet. I too have a ton of supplies and lots of ideas, but time gets away from me.
I need this to be able to balance and I need the calm mind.
This holiday season I want joy and any one that wants to chat with me about art and offer up new friends (which I need also) is awesome! Sign me up! thank you
I like this idea of making art with supplies in a bag. I'd like to win !ReplyDelete
It would be so wonderful to win. At the moment, I feel overstreatched, and it has become increasingly clear for me that I need to take care of myself. Thank you so much!ReplyDelete
Thank you for this amazing opportunity. I am so in need of some self-care & rediscovery. It would be an honor if I won this.ReplyDelete
Wow, what an awesome prize. I too, like so many women,am so over stressed and somewhat at my wits end. I have recently chosen to take my 5 year old grandson into my home to care for and raise. He is a wonderful little guy and I am blessed to have him in my life. But wow I never thought that this is where I would be - registering another child for kindergarten at the age of 57! I am opening myself up to learning many different ways to get grounded and relax and let go of all the stress. Good luck everyone in the drawing and thanks for offering it to us.ReplyDelete
Why do you think women have a hard time with self care? And how do you think this Brave Girl class might help you get through the holiday season?ReplyDelete
I continually struggle with doing the things I love (mostly art these days) and doing the things I should or have to do to the point that I sometimes feel guilty if I stop and do stuff for myself instead of cleaning the house, planning and cooking dinner etc. Naturally the holiday season adds more things that need to be done and leads to less time to do that which I really want to do. Learning how to fit the fun and enjoyable into the business of life in small ways would be so wonderful and this class sounds like that is what it would do. Thanks for the chance to possibly win a spot it this class :)
I think for myself that I have spent most of my life making sure that everyone else's needs are met and so in the process; I have neglected my own. I don't regret that. I just never really took the time to balance nurturing and taking care of others with doing the same for myself. I just looked into this Brave Girl class and what a wonderful gift for anyone. I am approaching this holiday season as the first anniversary of the passing of my husband. To say this has been the most difficult year of my life is an understatement. Yet I also feel strongly that I need to find a new path. A different path as I am now alone. I think that being able to embrace all this workshop has to offer would greatly help. Thanks so much for the opportunity.ReplyDelete
Short, simple and shameless.....PICK ME!!!!!!!ReplyDelete
i was raised by my grandmother. She taught me so many lessons about being selfless and always taking care of others, be it family, friends, or strangers. One of my memories about her is that, any time anyone came to visit unannounced, she always made them something to eat. It seems like a small act, yet it's something that I currently don't do because I'm always worried about finances and whether or not my husband and I will actually have something to eat for the week or the month. I don't consider myself selfish...just poor, often lacking the money, time, and energy to take care of others outside my immediate circle. Yet, I find myself the most fulfilled and alive when I do the opposite, as was the case when I lived in Montana and spent all my free time volunteering at the local humane society. Currently, I'm at a standstill. I want to do more, give more...but I feel sort of strapped emotionally and otherwise. I think taking the workshop would help me re-focus...it would take my gaze from my navel to where it needs to be: a balance where I practice self care but also do my best to be the giving person I was raised to be.ReplyDelete
Thanks for this opportunity to win this course. I am in a search of peace for my soul, looking at things differently than I did months ago. This course would really help on this journey.ReplyDelete
Looks like a lot of ladies are needing to have a little "me" time, just add me to the list.ReplyDelete
The truth for me is: you do all you can do and that's all you can do. I am not feeling as guilty any more when I run out of energy and time, but I do need an outlet for my soul.
Thanks for the chance to win.
Hope this comes my way. I could use some soul comfort and Melody Ross has a special place in my heart. Love her.ReplyDelete
I believe that women have a hard time caring for themselves because of generations and generations of being brought up as the caregiver in the family unit. Myself, I have always had a hard time and would definitely appreciate the opportunity of this class to help me "simplify" my impending holiday season.")ReplyDelete
Congratulations to the winners. I loved the Hop!ReplyDelete
Women today have become so stretched in many directions that we begin to feel fragmented. Jobs, children, churches, family and friends are all vying to have a portion of our time, and before we know it, we become emotionally depleted and feel neglected after taking care of everyone else's needs. The impact of stress, work & family robs of our own JOY & happiness. It is the ultimate price WE PAY in making everyone one around us happy.ReplyDelete
I could REALLY use the Soul Comfort class. In addition to the reasons above, I am also recovering from my second back surgery in less than 2 years. with the holiday season quickly approaching, I need something to get my mind off the "HAVE TO'S" and a relaxing way for my mind and body to heal emotionally AND physically. Please consider me for the spot in your class! I would be so grateful! <3
I have always naturally felt the need to take care of my family first. I was an only child, took care of my parents as they aged, took care of my 6 children as a single parent. Taking care of myself is very foreign concept to me, even now as a senior person. Life is chaotic, even now, having peace and calm in my life would be a Comfort to my Soul. I think this holiday season will be no different unless I find the means to simplify and create calm in my life.ReplyDelete
Thank you for this opportunity! Kay P.
I spent "a lifetime" in my first career taking care of every one else as a paramedic. Now I'm classic "sandwich" generation with aging parents and an adult son with special needs. My way of coping has been just to collapse, run away to bed and hide. That's not really serving me. I have a HUGE studio with literally thousands of dollars of supplies collected over 30 years and I never get down to it because it doesn't "fit" in 20 minute increments. This sounds doable. I want it to be doable. Change must happen for me or the short walk to non-functionality is to much of a reality.ReplyDelete
After taking Brave Girls Soul Restoration & what it did for me & my life, I can just imagine how much Soul Comfort will help me on this journey. This is an amazing, generous give~away & I would be honored if I won. Good Luck Everybody, this is awesome.ReplyDelete
Congratulations to all the winners, I had a lot of fun going from site to site during the last blog hop, you all are so creative! <3ReplyDelete
