Dorm Room Decor Using StencilGirl Stencils

Maria stopping by today with a short post to give you a great gift idea for that special teen or college student on your list this Holiday season!

Recently, my daughter asked me if I would make a sign for the outside of her dorm room and also something for the inside of their room.
How could I say no to that??!!
Right up my alley!
Off to the craft store I went for some wood!

No fancy techniques or expensive supplies, but I'm pretty darn happy with the way it came out. I used a unfinished wood board, unfinished letters and at the request of the girls Andrew Borloz's Chevron Set #2 stencil.

Here is what it looks like on their door:

Next I decided to make a letter for each of them with their initials. They have really high ceilings in their dorm room and a little common area and this is where they would go. I didn't want them to get lost on the wall so I purchased 18" unfinished letters.

I used Mary Beth Shaw's Flower Tiles stencil (one of my favorites) that the girls picked out.

Here they up on the wall:

The process was really easy. Paint the entire letter black and then stencil over in white. There are gold highlights that are hard to see in the photo. Speaking of photos.....sorry for the quality. Unfortunately, I took NO pictures when I did these projects...so  had the girls snap a few quick ones for me.

How about one more project?
This one I cannot take credit for.
My son made it over this past summer for his Fraternity Big Brother.

I hope this gave you some fun gift ideas for that special person on your list :)
If you have any questions about the process just leave me a comment below.

Have a great day!!!!

  4. Such great ideas! That sign for their door looks like it came straight from a gift shop. And I love the idea of decorating the large letters... I can think of a few people that would like something like that! Love your son's stenciling too... it turned out very well!
