Have a Heart Mixed Media Canvas with StencilGirl Stencils

It's just that time of the year where we see a lot of hearts, new romances and of course, celebrate Valentine's Day.  I am a bit of a non-traditionalist and wanted to give my heart a departure from the typical red or pink.  I, instead went with gray.

Using DecoArt Media fluid acrylic in Dark Gray Value 3, I loosely painted my 8x8 canvas.

I then took what I think is a non-traditional "heart" stencil, Traci Bautista's Love Collage stencil and some Titanium White paint and dabbed through with varying degrees of paint and pressure.

I wanted to add some words because I love having words in my art. I didn't want them to be super obvious, where someone would try and read a message, but I wanted them to be there nonetheless.  To give the piece some interest and texture, I added them in using Carolyn Dube's Verbage stencil and interference paint from DecoArt.  This gave it the subtleness I was looking for.

I painted around the heart in a mixture of teal and white.  Can you see the words, ever so slightly?

I then gave it some depth with charcoal and used a palette knife with yellow paint to lightly texturized the back some more.

I then wrote the word "love" loosely across the bottom.

I hope you LOVE this little tutorial and find some way to express your love through your art today!  If you would like to hop over to my Facebook Pageblog or Instagram and say hello I'd love to see you there!
