Having a Hoot!

Kirsten Reed here with a fun way to bring texture and interest to a canvas.  Let's grab those paints and palette knives and go have some fun!

I love layers ~ and many of my pieces have different "stages" as they lay around my studio.  Sometimes they sit for a long time.  One such canvas was this collage-layered canvas.  I had added marks with india ink and some blended and even "saw" the owl I wanted to paint, but then left it for months.

So today I picked it back and decided this owl was ready to come alive.

I began by using Lizzy Mayne's Fibonacci Stencil, heavy body white acrylic paint, and a palette knife.

I placed the stencil where I thought the wings would be and pulled paint through randomly with the palette knife.  If you know me, you know I am not a big fan of "precise" in my art, I prefer more organic looks.  You will notice how I used the stencil that way in this piece.
