Simply Stenciled - A Big Bag of Gratefulness

Hi there and welcome!

Thrifting, thrifting, I am so happy thrifting. I am grateful for second-hand stores. I've scored year-old Stampington art magazine for 50 cents, crafty goodies, blouses gently used and a few with the tags still on, and pretty dishes.

Maybe it is not shopping I missed the gene for so much as it's an extreme dislike for hot, stuffy dressing rooms. I am grateful I have friends who understand and bring me the occasional bag of tops that I can try on at my leisure at home, with the fan on! Part of the fun is finding something lovely that doesn't fit me but would look gorgeous on another friend. Why pass along the bounty in a Torrid bag when I have stencils?

I glued vintage book paper onto regular printer paper, place the stencil underneath, and rubbed with Scribble Sticks - Eggplant, Blushing, and Sky.

Next, I painted over the top with water and, being impatient, hit it with a heat gun to dry.

I embellished the front art for my bag with cut out leaves, a black Pigma pen, a White Uniball pen, and Inktense Pencils - Fuschia, Sea Blue, Poppy Red, and Leaf Green.

Here's the back element (I bet my friend Patty knows another Patty she can pass the bag along to!):

A few other things I felt grateful for as I upcycled my bag and wrote this post:
  • My eyesight.
  • Peace and quiet.
  • Sharp scissors.
  • My stash of ribbon.
  • The small stencil from Jane LaFazio's Cuba Libre! set for StencilClub, such a pretty tile.
  • Gwen Lafleur's Art Deco Alphabet Stencil, my current fave alphabet stencil.
  • The gift from a friend of Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks.
  • The fun I had when I went to Ephemera Paducah, meeting everyone, and shopping for art supplies - including the Inktense Pencils I used on this project.
  • Tip from Mary Beth Shaw: Wet the paper with your paintbrush along the line you want to tear for the perfect tear every time.
  • Tip from Mary Nasser: Practice scribble writing and you will be able to set aside your penmanship skills and find the joy of scribbling.
  • The StencilGirl Creative Team members and Columnists who rock their projects and inspire me!
I am also grateful to YOU for taking the time to stop by StencilGirl Talk today.

The season of gifting is creeping up. I am sure I have a few more boxes and bags I can put a stencil on, don't you?

Have a beautiful rest of your day or evening,
Carol Baxter
