Stenciled Garden Journal By Kate Yetter

Hello! Kate here with you today. I don't know about you but this summer is flying by and all my "plans" have not panned out. It stresses me out a little when I run through my to-do list in my head and realize I haven't completed half of it. That is when I reach for a cup of tea. Tea is my stress-reliever but I love it even more when the herbs come from my garden. 

Making a garden journal has been on my to-do list for a few years but I never got around to it. This year we gave our garden a remodel so I decided I was going to make a journal to record our progress. I wanted it to be relatively flat so stencils were a perfect fit.

For the cover, I used PaperArtsy Texture Paste with the Botanical Wildflowers stencil and PaperArtsy Infusions.

I started by drawing lines to keep my text straight. The background was stenciled as well and I added a few stamps. (Celtic Alphabet, Garden Spray and Bramble, Journal Texture #12)

To layout my garden and label each plot I used Brick Factory.

I find the easiest way to transfer the stencil outline to my paper is to use Distress Ink.

 

To paint, I used PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Paints 

I added a pen border and a butterfly stamp to embellish. (Garden Spray and Bramble)

To create categories, I again used the Celtic Alphabet and added a border underneath using Mermaid Stencil and Masks.

I used one of my favorite stencils, Chinese Garden Plum Blossoms, for this last page. 

After painting the image, I like to outline in a black Micron pen to add some dimension. You can see the difference between the outlined and non-outlined image below.
