Stained Glass Background with Flower Amphora Stencil

Marjie Kemper here, sharing a spread in my art journal using Daniella Woolf's Flower Amphora Stencil.   I started out putting washi tape across the top and bottom of each page, sprayed Dylusions Ink Sprays, misted with water, and let the colors run.

Next I used one of my favorite StencilGirl stencils - Centered Circles - to start building up the background. I like using parts of the stencil rather than the whole.

I started stamping and pulled another SG stencil (River Rocks) for added depth. Don't be afraid to stencil on top of other stencils.  I used different colors of Ranger Archival Inks on these pages.

I like to curl unmounted cling stamps and rock/roll as I stamp, so only get part of the image.

I dried each layer with my Heat It tool from Ranger.

Now for the main event... the stencil that brings me to Stained Glass!  The lower left corner has a vase image but today I wanted to use most (not all) of the stencil.  Some low-tack washi tape covered up the vase and was easy to remove afterwards.

I positioned the Flower Amphora stencil repeatedly over the pages, using Dyan Reaveley's White Linen Ink Spray because I love how it sinks into the colors beneath when allowed to dry.

I used some extra large foam stamps from my stash to add flowers and words.

I'm having a GIVEAWAY on my personal blog this week ~ a copy of MaryBeth's wonderful book, Flavor for Mixed Media.

Hope you enjoyed this project and that you'll pop over to my website so we stay connected and of course, for a chance to win MaryBeth's book!

See you next time! Marjie

Check back on Wednesday for a post from Sami Harding!

  15. Hello my darling friend! long time since we communed. Marjie - I LOVE this piece. It is just stellar. It is so helpful that you did the tutorial of how you achieved this lovely because I for one would never have figured it out! The colored are just so passioned and take my breath away...Dylan's (Dyan's) colors do that, don't they - but how you used them....Phew....just breathlessly. And the white, what a bonus and yes - it adds depth and you are so right - it really does create those pockets of abstract to the rest of the color. I am IN LOVE with the stencils and so glad I re=signed with Mary Beth. I am by the post office box, camped out! lol Well not really, but I want to be! Now to go over to your site Marjie - so nice to be here with you! Lovies always, Samara

  17. Just a magnificent art journal spread, Marjie! You know I am a big Dylusions' Ink Spray fan, but you have certainly taken me beyond the sprays with layer upon layer of goodness! The use of the partial stencils is just such a brilliant idea! Kudos to you on that technique! Well done, my friend, and congrats yet again on being part of this great creative team!
