Well I recently made a trip to our local Walgreens for birthday cards and instead walked out with some clearance items that I was thrilled with thoughts of transforming!
Sometimes I fear I have "hoarding tendencies" but I made a promise to myself that if I bought it, it would NOT sit on a shelf for future project, but I would make something THIS week with it! So I did….
One of the items I picked up was this little Christmas dish….on clearance for $0.21. I figured that was cheap enough for me to play around with if I didn't end up loving my creation.
Originally a whopping $0.99! I immediately painted the bowl white gesso as a base to start from.
I grabbed my small sized deli paper sheets
...and began using one of my favorite StencilGirl stencils Maria McGuire's Stitch a Greek border and lightly dabbing paint through different areas of the design on the less waxy side of the paper. I love using deli paper in my art because you can stamp on it, paint on it and then adhere it and it is practically translucent.
After I made several sheets of deli paper, I began cutting out the designs and played around with them until I found out how I wanted to adhere them to the bowl.
I used the circle medallion as a focal point for the center. I then cut the borders I had stenciled in half longwise and adhered them with modpodge to the rim of the bowl.
After the modpodge dried, I sprayed with a clear glossy sealer and let it dry overnight.
I love this bowl! Wouldn't it be a cute and fun gift to give someone? I can't decide how I will use it yet… but here are some ideas. Journaling spot holder, project life stuff, business cards, tags.
Remember creativity doesn't have to be costly!
