Tags, Tags, and More Tags with a Stencil

Jessica Sporn here from Jessica Sporn Designs!

Thank you StencilGirl for inviting me to demonstrate how I used Trivet A Stencil by Cecilia Swatton to create backgrounds for a series of tags.

I started with a blank tag, and several colors of blues and greens. Using a cosmetic sponge, I pounced paint through the openings of the stencil. I used one color at a time, and repositioned the stencil with each new color.

I love the soft mottled effect this achieved.

Once I had the coverage I wanted, I rubbed a mixture of paint and glazing medium over the tags to lower the contrast between the different layers I had stenciled. Here is an example of one of the tags after I glazed it.

With the backgrounds done, I went to town! I used a variety of stencils, words, and media, including stencils from prior months of StencilClub, Doors, Frames, Jump for Joy, Hands and Rain. I used my Dots and Dashes Stencil to create borders.

I ended up with 8 tags I really love, which all started out with inspiration from Trivet A Stencil by Cecilia Swatton.

Thank you Stencil Girl, for inviting me to post today!

  5. Jessica, thank you for highlighting one of the stencils in my "Trivet" series -- I really love the creative and beautiful results you got from it, and from using those other lovely stencils. I've ordered one of your stencils which I had been wanting for a long time and will be using it and posting on it soon. Thanks again for those links you gave me, to an earlier blog post of yours and to one of your online how-to videos!
