Serving Up Sugar Plum Fairies and Ginko Leaves this Throwback Thursday

The team is serving up sugar plums fairies and ginko leaves for your artistic pleasure!

Mystery of the Necessity Art Journal Spread

Hello Stencil Artists! Karen Gaunt here. When I looked at the Ginko Leave Stencil by Vinnie Sutherland I knew I didn't just want to use it as a background for one of my art journal pages I wanted to make it a main feature.
The stencil can easily be set up to repeat across the page which is exactly what I did here. I blended out the edges of the stencil with some darker paint so it is set really nicely into the page. I used some found poetry from an old book to compliment the stenciled image.

Sugar Plum Tree ~ December Daily Art Journal

Hello! Anna Friesen here. I've been working in my December Daily Art Journal that I pre-made back in July with gelliprints. I have been using a pastel and pink, abstract and whimsical style on every page.
The Modern Tree stencil by MaryBeth was a perfect addition to this journal.

I picture this "tree" in the Land of Sweets, home of the Sugar Plum Fairy. In my mind it's a magic wonderland where you eat candy everyday and dance the snowy night away. I kept on thinking of sweet traditional oval-shaped Christmas candy while I made this. :)
I started with a bright pink gelliprint, and stenciled with the stencils in various pinks and purples, moving and rotating the stencil several times in an intuitive way. I blended in colours, and white gesso, covering up unwanted areas as I went along, adding in details with paint pen doodles, smudging and blending different paints around the trunk and branches until it felt right.

Stenciled Serving Tray

Hi fellow stencil lovers! Kristie Taylor checking in with my serving tray in blue and copper.
Two layers of blue and turquoise paint, copper paint for the Gears stencil, white paint for Nathalie Kalbach's Circuit stencil, and then a final layer of clear cast resin to give it even more depth and shine!
Gears by Mary Beth Shaw is available alone or as part of this set.
Thanks for joining us for TBT. See you in January!

Embrace the Rain Stenciled Shirt/Apron

RV Apron

Hi there! Carol Baxter here. Good thing I baked cookies first because my fingertips are now covered in gesso, pink, yellow, umber, black, and 3 colors of green paint. The nail salon folks only ever see my toes. But I digress.

My apron is stenciled with Jamie Fingal's Vintage Camper TrailerThe 4 Vintage Camper Trailers that match it are darling!

I decided to go back and paint in the greenery.

The flags dress up the pocket.

I am a newbie to sewing on a machine but I am learning because if I stencil on fabric and have to pay someone to sew the project that just doesn't seem right. I've been stenciling on scraps mostly, but for this apron I used a $2 man's shirt from a thrift store.

So much happier with the result on smooth poly/cotton fabric than my failed attempt on canvas earlier in December. I am guilty of, oh no don't tell me syndrome, because StencilGirl designer Terri Stegmiller has tutorials (StencilClub: Mary, Mary Quite Contrary May 2016) and if not you can relax and check out these TUTORIALS.
If you are going to use the acrylic paints you have on hand you'll need some Golden Fabric Painting Medium. Mix with a 1/1 ratio.
I used the rain drops and some of the words from Jessica Sporn's Rain stencil. Jessica made a fabric banner with this stencil.

Before my hubby and I take the RV out next summer I plan to use the camper stencils and some other groovy ones to make a curtain behind the cab and make-over cushion covers. I'm pleased with the apron and am feeling confident headed into 2017:)

I can't think of too many things as fun as art practice! Can you?

I love how by using different types of stencils you can create such depth and interest.
I particularly enjoy combining them with stamps.
I know that I will be using all of the stencils that I chose to work with here a lot more in the future, too, as I purposely chose ones that can be used with a variety of imagery.

Emma Godfrey
I'm so excited about this blog hop, as stencils are my all time favourite tool.
I find them so versatile and the StencilGirl stencils are an absolute dream to work with.
Add those together with PaperArtsy's fabulous Fresco paints and some Archival Ink pads,
and it's a match made in heaven!
As you can see, I love building up lots of layers on my art journal pages ...
and it always amazes me just how much depth and interest you can create with only a few supplies.

Cindy Gilstrap
With the new year approaching I needed a small inspiring notebook that I could fit in my purse.
So I got busy with some great products from StencilGirl and PaperArtsy and created this cute and easy notebook cover.
I love how the stencils from StencilGirl combined with the paint and stamps from PaperArtsy!
The paint works wonderful with the stencils and I love how translucent the Fresco Paint is so you can see all the stencil and stamp layers beneath the paint!
I can’t wait to show you how easy this inspiring little notebook is to make!

Karen Gaunt

I had so much fun working on this collage piece for the blog hop with StencilGirl and Paperartsy.I love both of these companies so getting chance to work with them was a dream come true.
The fine detailed work on the flowers really gave me a chance to focus in on the piece and enjoy the process.

Clare Lloyd
As well as stamps one of my must have craft stash items has to be stencils.
So the chance to work with StencilGirl products was an opportunity not to be missed!
There is such a wide range of designs to fit all styles
so I was able to find plenty to complement my modern clean style.
The stencils all layered up perfectly with Fresco chalk paints and Jessica Sporn's Becoming stencil worked fabulously with my girlie stamp designs.

Lin Brown

Hi, I'm Lin, from Yoursartfully and I would like to share a project with you using my three favourite things......
stamps, stencils and Fresco Finish paint.
In my opinion, this is a trio made in heaven and a combination that I use pretty much on a daily basis.
I love how versatile all of these products are.
They allow me to create really interesting backgrounds for my projects.

Whether I'm working on a canvas like this or maybe some fabric or a wooden substrate,
the results are always fantastic.
I'm totally in love with the way white paint looks trapped between the layers when using translucent paint.

Anna Friesen

Working with these paints was like frosting a cake: so luscious and rich with an opaque creamy feel.
The stamps make it easy to add lines and shapes that would be tricky to create by hand.
And the stencils are so beautifully designed to work for background textures.

Janet Joehlin
What fun it was to make these books using these versatile PaperArtsy stamps and StencilGirl stencils!
I loved the translucency of that Blue Glass Fresco Acrylic Paint and the color is my favorite!
I picked this particular stamp set because I knew I could use them over and over again
as really cool texture in many future projects! Thanks PaperArtsy and StencilGirl!
