Monochromatic Art Journal Page with Natalie May

Hey there Stencil fans!

It's Natalie here sharing an easy Art Journal Page that will look great in your
journal and with minimal materials!

Let me talk you through it.

I used a page from my Art by Marlene Journal and used washi tape to mask off the edges.
I tore some collage paper (which I fabulously designed) and used gel medium to adhere it to the top and bottom corners then once dry, lightly added a little gesso over the top just to tone it back and give it a little white wash.

I then pulled out my PaperArtsy Paints and lightly painted the background using
Caribbean Sea & Aquamarine.

Once dry, I used a latex wedge to add white to the Vintage Script Stencil across the page.

Next, I used a combination of darker teals (Captain Peacock & Calypso) to add a few leaves and flowers from Wildflowers and Grasses and then with a fine paintbrush, I joined up some of the stems to give them a little extra body.

I finished the stenciling process with the Wall of Words stencil and some Calypso paint.

The layering in all the same colours give a great feeling of dimension and depth.

I then stamped onto the page in teal ink, a Carabelle stem stamp across the bottom and then some black leaves from a Tim Holtz Stamps.

The birds I painted in watercolors and then perched on the branches before adding a stamped title.

Simple and Pretty!

  1. Natalie, thank you that, among other stencils from StencilGirl Products, you included my Vintage Script stencil! May I have your permission to create a link to today's post in an upcoming post on my own blog? And thank you for showing all of us this project -- this art journal page sparkles!
