Alcohol Ink & Stencils with Natalie May!

Hey there Stencil Fans!

Natalie here sharing a fun technique using Alcohol Inks and your stash of Stencils!

I love how versatile Alcohol Inks can be and creating gorgeous backgrounds with Stencils is super easy.

I started with some glossy cardstock but you could use Yupo or a a semi gloss.
Get that stash of stencils out and choose some graphic and geometric designs.

I popped on some gloves, placed the stencil on the cardstock then dripped a generous amount of ink over the stencil.
Once I had a few colours on, I used my fingers to spread the colour around making sure that the stencil was fully covered.  I now leave the stencil on the cardstock to dry and put it aside to dry completely.
I suggest doing this in a well ventilated room as it can get a little smelly!

Once they were all dry, I gently pulled off the stencil which left a beautiful impression.

With the dirty stencil, I gave it a generous spray with Isopropyl Alcohol then used the dirty stencil as a stamp and again left them to dry on the glossy cardstock.
The ink from the stencil, will transfer onto the cardstock!  How cool!

Check out some of these amazing results.

Some of them I cut up to be Thank you cards for my customer orders but I decided to showcase a couple in my Art Journal.

I used the Loose Women 6x6' Stencils designed by Sue Pelletier and using a black pen, traced the image onto my background and then joined the lines together a bit to make them a little more whole.

I added a few backgound stamps and then trimmed it down to go into my 6x6' art journal - and I love it!

This is such a cool and fun technique where you can get a heap of amazing results for easy backgrounds!

Have a great day
Natalie May

  1. Looks like you really had fun with this project, Natalie! You chose great stencils. I'm curious about the unnamed ones you used - that 'wavy' one in particular.

    1. Thanks for the love. The wavy one is called Symmetrical Waves S480 - it's super nice!
