Creating Abstract Art using StencilGirl Stencils, w/ Laura Dame

Hello again! Laura Dame here, and today I am going to talk about using StencilGirl stencils in abstract art.

I realize now as I'm writing this, I completely missed the fact that today is Valentine's day, and I could have totally leaned into that theme with a Valentine's project... But why be predictable, right? Right!

Recently I have been enjoying playing in my journals in a very abstract and intuitive way. And even more recently, I purchased some new to me paint colors and mediums, so I decided to do a little grid style series of abstracts in one of my journals.

While I was doing these, I sifted through my StencilGirl stencils and found a couple that made the marks I wanted to add to my grid. I especially loved the circular marks and the writing, so I decided I wanted to play with these, but this time go a little bigger.

So I pulled out my Strathmore square journal. I started by taping the edges so when I was done I would have a nice, clean piece that, if I wanted, I could take out of the journal and frame or hang. Then, I started the fun part - playing with paint, marks, and stencils.

Check out the process video below! I hope you feel inspired to try some abstract painting, and add the perfect finishing touches with some stencils!
