Enjoy this blissful moment- by Jane Bellante

Hello everyone!  Jane Bellante here - back with one of my favorite ways to use my stencils and masks.

I love using sprays of all kids, and the Oxide Sprays from Ranger are no exception.  For this short but sweet tutorial, I grabbed my Longwood Florals Mask (which has become one of my very favorite masks lately!!), and the Kitsch Flamingo, Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo Oxide Sprays.

I'm using some handmade paper that has bits of flowers in it.  It's rather thick, so I wanted to explore how the sprays would react on this particular paper.

I sprayed through the mask, and then I flipped it over to get the negative on the right.  I just love the contrast here!

The Oxide Sprays sunk into the paper, but the paper is thick enough that it did not totally saturate the back of the paper - which I loved because my final plan was to bind this into a little book.

Next, I grabbed some rub on transfers and some words and created a little fairy land on top.  I adore how it turned out!

You can watch the full (and quick!) tutorial right here, and you can also see the gorgeous eco paper from Jeanie Barnes that I used for my book cover.  It is soooo pretty!!!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that you will experiment with sprays and StencilGirl Stencils.  It's a never ending exploration that I just love!

Thank you for being here!!

Cultivate Your Own Magic Garden With Cat Kerr's New Release

Cat's newest mask set “Magic Garden” was inspired by a recent visit to the Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot. Cat claims she has never had much of a green thumb but that doesn't stop her from admiring the beauty of a perfectly imperfect bloom. A true gift for the senses!

Kelp - L913

Kelp can be seen floating around in some of the aquariums at the park

and I could literally watch them dance for hours!

Magic Garden is a handwritten list of some of the names

of the flowers that I admired at the festival.

Disney goes all out for this festival and when it comes to tulips,

they plant them as far as the eye can see. What a stunning sight to behold!

Flower Heart is my tribute to those that tend with care and cultivate a garden.

No garden or bouquet is complete without the rose.

My wonky hand-drawn roses are perfect to use as a focal

or they can be staggered to create a lovely background!

Fantastic New Florals from Rae Missigman!

The inspiration for these was gathered from a wildflower garden that I visited in Washington DC. I remember that there were rows and rows of colored stalks that peeped over one another, row after row. It was their crowded space and tangled web of color that really caught my eye. And even in all of that jumbled tangle that was a garden I was able to pick out different shaped leaves, petals and stems. It was almost as if they were riding a line between realistic and imaginary in their chaotic little habitat.

I envision using these on the Gelli Plate (with acrylic paint) as masks have the power to create such beautiful layers of color and lines using this medium. I also appreciate and LOVE the mysterious and unpredictable results that come from mixing inks with masks. The fluid lines that result are always a beautiful surprise.

New Botanical and Peruvian Inspired Stencils

Hard to know which new ones to be more excited about, right?!

Cynthia Silveri had this to say about her newest stencil designs:

"Recently I have been delving into color theory and color relationships studies. As part of this work I began looking at images of textiles from various cultures from around the world. I was especially drawn to the rich reds and earthen tones that were used in Peruvian textiles. As I studied the colors in this art, I became more aware of the symbols that it comprised. Many of the patterns woven into Peruvian textiles include themes of wildlife, people and nature.

"From this exploration, I was inspired to create the Symbols of Peru stencil, Peruvian Sun Mask and Peruvian Grid Mask.

"The sun, dancing women and snakes were derived from some of the more literal depictions in the textiles, while the medallions, grids, and “scrolls” were inspired by more abstract aspects of the work which actually symbolize much deeper meanings around human work on the land, the cosmos, and life and death as part of the cycle of time."

Botanicals!

Rae Missigman’s study of botanicals and love of wildflowers prompted her to create a Botanical Stem Stencil with a Mask, and the Botanical Wildflowers Stencil with Masks.

Rae has a style all her own and these stencils work well with her other botanical-themed stencils and masks.

You will need to snip out the masks but we promise it is easy.

Scroll on down because Ray is sharing a video with her printing plate technique using these stencils.
