Creanouk - Gell Press Poppy Seeds

Hi, you beautiful artist! Anouk here again to share another art journaling spread.  I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are all ready a new art journaling process video!
This time I worked with the gorgeous stencil Poppy Seed Heads by Cynthia Silveri that I pressed on tissue paper with my Gel Press printing plate. I alway enjoy a gel printing session, they are just so relaxing! And in the end you'll have a stack of beautiful papers to use in your art journal! You can use these papers when you don't have a lot of time to be creative or to just get yourself inspired.

I build this page up by creating layers with the same stencil. I started with a light colour as a background layer and then I add the darker tissue paper print of the stencilling to create the foreground. I like to work this way to create an art journal spread with a little bit of depth. Sometimes I even add a third layer with modeling paste or gesso to create even more dimension.
It can be scary to use one stencil multiple times, it can become quite busy if you overdue it. That's why I like to use my tissue paper prints when I'm building up a page with stencilling. The tissue paper is easier to control and to try out if you aren't sure of the outcome.

While I was filming this page I run out of Mod Podge. I almost cried. Ha! Life is tough with a newborn. I remembered that Matt Medium is also an adhesive so at the time it felt like a life saver. Little did I know that tissue paper and Matt Medium are not the best of friends. It dries very waxing in my opinion. So if you are watching this video and see me using Matt Medium for sticking down the tissue paper, I'll not recommend doing the same. I can't wait for my Mod Podge to arrive, because it's been a hard few days without.

As you can see, the Poppy Seed Heads is such a nice little stencil to create layers with. I hope you enjoy the video from my process that I made for you!

I wish you all a Happy New Year with lots of creativity!

Until next time.

Anouk

Build your own arched city or Leaning Tower of Pisa with Carolyn Dube's new Arches and Towers of Arches. You can even create artworks where the arches become abstract!

Art journal? Check.
Gel print? Check
Fun? Check. Check.

These stencil/masks are a playful take on the arches in classical Greek and Roman architecture. Stack them, combine them with Arches, or use parts of them.

Towers of Arches. Simply snip out the masks and you are good to go.

Towers of Arches Masks L859

Arches Stencil with 20 Masks, L858

One of the perks of getting the masks with the stencil is it can make deciding where to place an arch before you make the commitment of paint! Not only can this stencil make arches it can make organic oval shapes that look NOTHING like an arch.

Stretch now. Arch your back. Feel your creative flow. Get ready to play:

Need a little more art inspiration with these arches? Check.

Doing it Warhol Style with Natalie May

Hey there Stencil fans!

Pastiche is one of those words I had to look up.
I'm not too shy to say it!  I had no idea what it meant!
In fact, I messaged a friend and fellow Aussie creative, Fiona Paltridge, for her helping me translate the word into a way that I can use it for my creating! And then it made sense ...Pastiche is to 'borrow' inspiration and make it your own!

So with this in mind, I went to my all-time fave artist, Andy Warhol. and was instantly overcome with ideas!

I narrowed it down to his unique printmaking style using this fabulous piece for inspiration and pulled out the Gel Press!

Here are a few simple steps I used to create my Art Journal Page.

I started with my Gel Press and created a heap of simple backgrounds using a range of colours.

Next I pulled out all my Pam Carriker 6" x 6" stencils and decided to use the Create Face for the page.

I then used the stencil and contrasting colours to create the prints.

This process was so much fun and I love that I created a heap of extra prints from the additional pulls I got from the plate - including the paper towel!

Once they were all dry, I trimmed them down and shuffled them around my journal page until I was happy with the layout before popping a little stamping and doodling on the finished image.

I am loving how this turned out!

Thanks for stopping by!
