Easy Peasy Mixed Media Note Cards

On March 19th, Maria told me she was mailing me a few stencils to use in my projects.  When she told me that one of them would be one of Seth Apter's new stencils, I was beyond excited.  I know Seth personally, have taken some of his classes, love his work, and was honored to be doing a project for his new release.

So I waited to get them in the mail.  And I waited.  And I waited.  How long could it take an envelope, sent from the USA, to get to the countryside of Sao Paulo, Brasil?  Longer than I ever expected!!  Almost 5 weeks!!  Got them on April 25th.  Great, now had 4 days to come up with a project for the blog hop!

Talk about stress.

So, as I lay my head down at my craft table, resting on the papers I had left over from the last project and all of Seth's stencils, the lightbulb in my head went off and I had my idea!

Me - resting on a bunch of papers I made for the last class and all of Seth's stencils.
I had so much fun making papers for my Mixed Media Mini Album, that I had an ample supply begging to be used.  [If you do not know about my Mixed Media Mini Album, you are gonna have to click HERE to watch the video because you need some of these cools papers for this project].

I also needed to send out some packages and I wanted to include a handmade note card.  No one sends notecards anymore and this is such a great technique to use for scraps you have laying around.

Born from all this is my -

Easy Peasy Mixed Media Note Cards

Take some of those beautiful sheets of mixed media papers and cut them into pieces for a card front.  I cut mine to 4" x 5.25".  I knew I was going to layer them on a solid piece of cardstock and then onto an A2 card front. Distress the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink by Ranger.

Now the fun begins.

Since there really isn't any one specific step by step to this, I will just explain what I did to achieve this look.

Secure the first piece you want to work with to a craft mat with removable tape.  Then lay the part of the stencil that you want to use on the paper. Using a makeup sponge, pick up some of the paint (or other medium you are using), dab off as much as possible, and then just dab through the stencil.

Because Seth's stencils have so much going on in them, I wanted to use specific parts.  At times, the area I worked with was large and I did not need to mask -

Other times, I needed to mask off the area around the word I wanted to use.  I just taped pieces of scrap paper around the word and dabbed through.

Pieces of scrap papers taped to hide the areas around the word Content.

For this mask, I was able to just fold pieces of scrap paper to tape around the word Timeless.
Below are close ups of each of the cards I made.

"Content Person"
"Enter"

"Note"

"Proof Inside"

"Story Inside"

"Time In Disguise"

"Unfinished Story" - this is a 5" x 7" card that I thought would be great for an anniversary card.

  7. Your ideas are just the boost I needed to make a fun card to bring a smile to my friend who was injured in a car accident last week. Maybe I'll make a bunch of them to send to her every week until she's walking again. She loves edgy things like this. Have to start with something else until I order/receive these stencils.
