Shhhh.....Maria sneaking in here at the beginning of the post to say....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY BETH!!!!!!!
I decided since it was Mary Beth's birthday, let's celebrate by giving YOU all a present!!!
Join me back at the end of the post for a GIVEAWAY and Discount Code!
Take it away Mary Beth.....
Yep, I am 54 today. It seems a lot older than 53, go figure. Geez has it been a busy year or what?? I have a feeling that trend is going to continue.

My cats like to journal, at least two of them do. |
In honor of my birthday, I think Maria has a little something up her sleeve, a discount perhaps? Yay!!!!
But I am here today to talk about DLP = Documented Life Project brought to you by the girls at the Art to the 5th Academy.
If you would have asked me in January what that was, I would have had told you I had no idea. Then I heard a few people talking and the name kept coming up. Even though I am typically under a rock, I do hear things, ya know.
But I still wasn't really paying attention until March when I taught at Random Arts in NC. A bunch of my very favorite people were there and they all brought their DLP journals.
Oh.My.
They were gorgeous.
Maria is one of these people with a gorgeous journal; she lays low on this sort of thing but that girl has more talent in her baby finger than a lot of people I know. Her planner is chock full of fancy schmancy parts. It is totally yummy.
But back to DLP and Random Arts.
I got home and looked it up. Of course it had started in the beginning of 2014 so I had missed the boat by more than three months. Someone suggested I could pop in at any time but I really didn't want to play 'catch up', you know what I mean?
My birthday seemed like a really good time to start though, I mean it is a new year, right?
When I found out that Moleskine made a journal that started in July 2014 and my birthday is on the 7th and all, I figured it was meant to be.
What I didn't realize is that journal went all the way thru to the end of 2015.
All the edges of my ginormous journal, covered in Washi tape = beautiful! |
And that once I added my pages it would be
SO.FLIPPING.BIG.
Hmmmm. I will confess to trepidation.
I am up for it though.
LOVE the concept, every single thing about it.
Journal, planner, diary, call it what you will, I just like it.
Even though mine is flipping ginormous.
These girls, the DLP gang, they go by Art to the 5th.....and they are uber talented. I haven't met any of them in real life, at least I don't think I have (you know I am of advanced age), but I can tell you I love what they are doing and how they have created a thriving community around their passion.
They are generous girls; I bought their online workshop about doing Planner Pages and it is really worthwhile.
So now, let the journey into my new natal year begin.
The DLP way.
Did I mention that my journal is B-I-G?

ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Mary Beth! You're not "older" -- you're simply a survivor! And if that still doesn't make you feel less "old," I would gladly trade with you! I'm 65!

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Mary Beth! Love your planner and am happy you enjoy doing it. Have a wonderful birthday week.
ReplyDeleteYes, I started DLP in the middle of March, when I finally decided to do it. I loved seeing everyone else's work and felt like it was doable. I already do a handwritten journal daily, Project Life daily and an art journal that is supposed to be daily but I don't keep up with it. And 54 old? Ha! Try 70, 80, 90!
ReplyDeleteAloha, Kate
Happy birthday, Mary Beth. I turned sixty three months ago so I don't have much sympathy! Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I can't get the discount code to work for me??? Boo hoo
I can't believe it Mary Beth, today is my birthday too! You are only the second person I have ever met that shares the same birthday with me. I turned 56 today, so a couple of years older than you, but the way I look at it is that I just keep getting closer to being able to ask for the Senior Citizen's Discount! Have a great one!!

ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Marybeth. Hope your day and your whole birthday week are awesome
ReplyDeleteOkay! So, my birthday is in January, so I guess I missed the boat completely, but, like you, MaryBeth - even though I'm under a rock most of the time, I still hear things too…and I have heard about this, a little here, a little there. You have so kindly challenged me into getting on board with this as well, birthday or not. So, this week, I will look into it myself! I already know it's right up my alley and will be FUN! Thanks for the kick in the buttutti! Cyberly speaking, of course
ReplyDeleteWishing you all the best on your birthday!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday MB!! and many more. This is so exciting. I love love love your Stencil Club and cant wait to see if I can win a stencil for your birthday celebration. Thank YOU!!
ReplyDeletesuzschultz23@aol.com
Not only can't you do this on iPad, you can't anymore on iPhone. I'm not sure why because even my website and my new soon to be seen blog has an app for it that was free or just a few dollars.
ReplyDeleteMB, Happy Birthday again. My question is do you plan to use the Moleskin journal as your art journal? Are you going to gesso all those pretty pages?
It wouldn't be hard for me to resurrect a journal, I keep an online diary of sorts, and I also download or the app downloads what I write on FB, along with my paintings, jokes etc.
Interesting idea.
Tommy, I am so early in this process I am not sure where it will take me. I will probably document my "day to day" life in this DLP journal and do experimental stencil stuff in my other journals.
DeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!! I really do hope it is a wonderful day for you :)
ReplyDeleteI tried several time to say this, but something happened. Happy Birthday Mary Beth! Yay! Love your pictures. Your planner will be bursting at the seams before you know it! Have fun, enjoy it all.
