Fabric Printing with Stencils

Jessica Sporn here to share fabric journals I made using the February StencilClub stencils designed by Carolyn Dube.

I've been on a fabric creating, stitching and sewing binge lately.  I love the fact that I can create my own fabric designs using stencils.

For these two journals, I simply placed the stencils on top of a white tea towel, and pounced Deco Arts Fabric Paint using a cosmetic sponge.  Easy!

The Deco Arts fabric paints come in wonderful colors, and one of the lines has glitter and another is metallic.  YES!  And best of all, you don't need to heat set these paints.

For the vertical journal,  I cut up my fabric into strips and squares, and made a big piece of crazy patchwork.  For both journals, I made a sandwich with the stenciled fabric as the "bread," and a layer of cardboard and a layer of batting as the "cold cuts" and "cheese," and then stitched it all together.  I used an element from Traci Bautista's Tropical Floral stencil for the flower and word "Play" on the tall journal, and the word "adventure" from my Windows and Doors stencil.

I used a pamphlet stitch and waxed linen thread to stitch card stock inside the journals.  I can't wait to send these to my nieces for Valentine's day!

Here's a little video tutorial showing some different fabric stenciling techniques.

Thanks for stopping by!  I'll be back on the 13th with another project and video tutorial using the February StencilClub stencils.

  1. I love this! The colors are fabulous, and I love the beading on the Adventure journal. I keep forgetting about fabric as an option when I work, but I want to make one of these journals! It's going on the to-make list :) Thanks for the inspiration!
