My name is Sue Plumb and I am a scrapbooker, art journaler and mixed media artist from Queensland, Australia. I am so excited to be featured as a guest designer here to share my love of StencilGirl® stencils with you.
Here in Australia, we recently introduced a new environmentally conscious law designed to reduce waste that bans stores from providing shoppers with single-use plastic bags. For a trip to the store, it means that you now need to pack your own reusable shopping bags (which I am becoming much better at remembering!) Most of the reusable bags I see are terribly boring though, so I decided to create some bags of my own.
To create my bags, I started with a plain calico fabric bag, which I clipped to a craft mat to keep it flat. I then used some bright acrylic paints and a large brush to paint the front of the bag.
Once the paint had dried, I took the 'Arani Goddess of Fire' stencil designed by Andrea Matus DeMeng, and taped it in place using washi tape, before using a black waterproof ink and sponge dauber to apply the ink through the stencil. I then used the 'Mandala Floral' stencil and masked off different parts of it to highlight around my focal image.
The final step was simply a matter of using a white paint pen to add some detail highlights to my stenciled image.
I couldn't stop at just one bag though, so I repeated the process using different color paints and the gorgeous 'Feathers 9' stencil, which I masked and moved around several times to create the design I wanted.
For a different look, I used a black bag and my absolute favorite StencilGirl® stencil, 'Pretty as a Peacock' as my focal image. I also used one of my other favorites, 'Deconstructed Floral Bouquet'stencil to add some details behind the face, and the 'Feathers 9' stencil again to extend on the feathers in her hair before once again finishing off with a white paint pen.
And a BIG thank you to StencilGirl® Products for having me!
