Guest Designer: Tina Jensen

Tina Jensen mixed media art journaling with StencilGirl stencils
Hello! My name is Tina Jensen. I live close to Copenhagen in Denmark.
I work with fabric and paper from my two studios – one I my winter home and one in my summer house.

I´m newly retired from my part-time day job and work full-time now with my art.

I love to use StencilGirl® stencils in my work – especially the handmade journals I make.
The covers for those are a mix of collage, paint and texture, and stencils are perfect for that.

This project is made inside my own art journals, but could as well have been the cover.
I started out with covering my page with white gesso and a little bit of paint.

Let dry and then add a little bit of alcohol ink – spray with a little bit of water and let it dry
While the page is drying I go in with a pencil and make some lines and marks in the paint and ink.

Once the page was totally dry, I used Rae Missigman’s Modern Buds stencil
to make structure on the top of my page.

I used modeling paste through the stencil.

Then I pulled off the stencil carefully and let the page dry.

Add a little more scribble on the page if you like.
I wanted to add the dark colors now and for that I used Traci Bautista’s Soulful Scribbles Dots Dash stencil.

Add some black but be careful not to add too much. If so, wipe with a little bit of cloth on top of the stencil.
Pull off the stencil and let the page dry.
Now your page will look like this with pretty white structure on the top and some darker marks at the bottom.

Go in with your pencil to outline some of the marks and highlight some of the lines you already have
or make more if you like.

Now it´s time to choose your focal image for your page – depending on which look you’re going for it can take some time to find the right image. I tried out several before I decided to go with this girl and rabbit.

I think she´s perfect for the colors I have chosen for my page.
Glue on the image with a glue stick and let the page dry.

To have my image blend in more with my page I added some structural white marks with Soulful Scribbles Dots Dash stencil again and some modeling paste.

And for some darker marks in the right hand side of my page, I used Travel Note.
I used some of the same paint I began my page with.

And some black gesso too.

Again, I pulled off the stencil careful and let the page dry.

Lastly I added more marks and some little pods using pencil, black ink pen and white gel pen,
and finished my art journal page.
