Watercolor Nesting Dolls

For the longest time I have wanted to paint something for our picture gallery that represents each one of our family members. I am all about wall art that includes my children as I love being surrounded by reminders of them. When I saw the Nesting Doll stencil by Valerie Sjodin, I knew that it would be perfect due to the various sizes of dolls. I especially love how the adorable faces were included in the stencil.

I also used the Lily Wallpaper for the motif at the top.

I used the Inspired by Frida Stencil for the roses in one of the doll's hair.

I started by tracing my stencils onto the watercolor paper.

I started by layering and shading with watercolors.

I  have been trying my hand at Gond Painting lately (a form of Indian Folk art) and I decided the heart shape in the center of the dolls was the perfect place to add a bit of pattern.

One of the dolls doesn't have a face as it represents a baby that we lost. I wanted to include him in our family picture so that we would remember.

I hope you are inspired to create something personalized for your family gallery using stencils.
