Creating Focal Points For Journal Pages Using StencilGirl Stencils

Hello! It's Laura Dame here, and today I am sharing some easy ways to create focal points for your journal pages.

Do you ever create backgrounds in your journal and wonder what to do with them? I do all the time!! Sometimes I get into the groove of creating backgrounds, and then I just can't figure out what direction to go next.

I thought, why not make some focal points that you can have ready to go for those times when you're not sure. This project was inspired by Wendy Solganik - I was watching her video for the collage fodder challenge, and she just reached into a bag and brought out a little focal point, and I thought "I want to do that!"

For these little cards I used watercolors to make the bases, and tried to use all different hues to add either contrast or harmony when using them in my journal. I then used spray paint with Rae Missigman's botanical stencils to make the botanical elements (others are doodles of mine).

While I was making these, I realized that they could easily be used as little cards, also! Maybe as little thank you notes, or bits of encouragement for coworkers. I may even bring a couple to display on my desk at work - they're just so cute!

I hope you enjoy this process, and regardless of what you use them for, I can't wait to see how they turn out!
