Celebrating the Sea with June Pfaff Daley's New ATC Mixup Stencil

Playing with the new ATC Mixup stencil by June Pfaff Daley was almost as wonderful as a trip to the beach itself and I didn't have to get sandy to do it! Happy Thursday friends! I'm Debi Adams and I'm having a blast trying out all the new ATC stencils by StencilGirl.  Today I decided to "dip my toes into the ocean" and create with watercolors, texture paste and these beach-inspired stencil designs. The truth is all of the ATC Mixups are fabulous and I plan on playing with every single set. I just ordered my last two by MaryBeth Shaw and Seth Apter. I love how easy and simple it can be to make things with them.

All of these mini-cards were created on Arches 140 lb. watercolor paper base. It's my watercolor paper of choice but you can use a different watercolor paper. I created my background then added texture paste to the stencil.  After the paste was dry, I came back in and watercolored the images. (Don't forget to wash off your stencils right after you use the paste!)  These look great alone or would make wonderful card elements.  I coulda, shoulda mounted all four of them into a frame for a wonderful home decor piece.  Oh well, like 7 more ATC stencils to go.  There will be another opportunity.  The versatility of these is obviously as diverse as your imagination will take you.

Here are a few close ups of each design. I am only featuring four today but the stencil has NINE fabulous designs. This sea horse has to be a favorite.  Of course, surrounding anything with the color aqua is a hit for me.

Love the piece of this shell!  Now I need June to create me a scallop.

Not sure if this was meant to be coral or seaweed but the fun part about stencils is that you can take them where you want them to go.

The turtle had lots of little details. I have seen art with the turtle painted in shades of blue.  Chomping at the bit to try that color combo.

Three simple steps to make these.  Watercolor the base.

Apply texture paste and let it dry. Apply watercolors to design if desired.  My shell didn't need it.

That's it! I'm fairly certain with a little bit of time, these could be made into rusty, old shells or modern and trendy, just by the application of products.  What design on this stencil is your favorite?  The cardmaker in me had to apply these images onto a 3-D card. Of course, anytime I'm creating, "Life is Good". You too?

Congratulations to Kathy Encinas! My mom drew the name randomly to receive this card/art project!

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Have an amazing day!
