Art Journaling with Frieda Oxenham and StencilGirl® Stencils

February is a sort of nondescript month as far as I am concerned. The days are still short and spring seems far away. Sometimes there is snow but even if not, it is mostly cold. What better time to do some arting, so here is my February project step-by-step:

1.      Collage vintage and tissue paper in your art journal. I’m working in a 9 x 9” Bee Company Mixed Media one.

2.      Using Distress Markers as well as paints add color to the pages and remove some of it again with a baby wipe, through Traci Bautista's Silkscreen stencil and the medium stencil from Mary Beth Shaw's Private Collection 16.2 set.

3.      Spray on the house (on the left page) and the face (on the right) with spray paint (I used Liquitex) through the small and large stencils from Pam Carriker's Her Story stencil set.

4.      Stencil on house again using the small stencil from step 3 but this time with grey Distress Crackle Paint.

5.      Outline face and house with a permanent black marker.

6.      Stamp quotation onto vintage paper with a variety of stamp alphabets, tear out the individual words, edge with a suitable color and a permanent stamp pad and glue onto the pages as shown with a glue stick.

7.      Glue on postage stamps as shown.

8.      Drip white acrylic ink onto the pages.

9.      Edge the pages with a permanent archival ink pad in a matching color.

November StencilClub Inspiration!

Hi, everyone! Mary Nasser here today to show you what I did with the
EXCLUSIVE November 2014 StencilClub stencils designed by MaryBeth Shaw!

I adore these November StencilClub designs!
It’s always such a treat to get stencils Mary Beth has created for her own Private Collection
that are made available only to StencilClub members.

Being November, I wanted to create an art journal spread combining all three of these stencils
with a list of things I am grateful for – in an autumn color scheme. Of course, turquoise snuck its way in!

For this art journal spread, I layered Matisse background colors, a Durer orange pencil, yellow Pitt pen and acrylic paint.

I loved using the 4” x 4” for the border.

I was intriqued by the negative shapes left by these stencils as well and further embellished these
with acrylic paint, a fine line applicator, and black pen.

I added some splatter, gestural graphite marks, and practiced “secret writing”
I learned in Mary Beth’s art journaling webinar for my gratitude list!

Was hard to stop on these pages because I was having SO MUCH FUN!
I know you’re going to love these stencils, too!

August StencilClub Inspiration!

Hi, everyone! Mary here today to show you what I did with the
EXCLUSIVE August 2014 StencilClub stencils designed by MaryBeth Shaw!
Being in StencilClub is such a treat!
But it always feels extra special when the stencils are part of Mary Beth's Private Collection

I used all 3 stencils to create an art journal spread!

I played with the 9" x 12" to create text boxes with gesso and a cosmetic sponge.
After outlining these text boxes with my 6B pencil, I did free-writing about travels within the boxes.

These stencils work really wonderfully together and made it easy to create lots of rhythm and movement!
They're the perfect balance of geometric-like shapes and gestural marks!
Below are some details:

Of course, I had to try spreading white Wendy Vechi Embossing Paste through that mini-grid with my palette knife, and it worked great!

That 6-inch swirl stencil/mask belonged around my world and map stickers because it reminds me of a galaxy or the orbit of planets!

Was hard to stop on these pages because I was having SO MUCH FUN!
