Hi
friends! I'm Dana Tatar and I'm super excited to be a Guest Designer for
StencilGirl today! My brain is about 90% song lyrics. I have hundreds of CDs
and have to admit that in this age of digital music, I still buy them. Why?
Besides having a superior sound, I love the little booklet that comes along
with the music. It usually contains photos of the band/musician (eye candy),
excellent artwork (more eye candy), and if I'm lucky, the song lyrics. I've
cataloged just over 350 of my favorite lyrics on colorful stenciled cards for this
project. This wheel of verses is the closest thing I have to a diary. Spinning
through these cards makes me happy, not only because they are alphabetized, but
because I know that they will serve as a starting point for a lot more great
art.

Step One: Apply
paint to the blank cards. I try to minimize waste and stretch the life of my
products, so I used paint that was left on my work surface from other projects
to color a lot of these cards. I also pulled all the paint from my stash that
was in danger of drying up and used that for this project as well.
Step Two: Apply
paint over StencilGirl Stencils and onto the cards. Once dry, highlight the
stenciled designs with black and white pens.
Step Three: Write
song lyrics onto the cards and file. I recorded my favorite lyrics in a
notebook and then transferred the words to the cards as I finished them. I used
correction tape as a base for the lyrics.
I
have a short video that shares a peek at my cards as they spin around:
I decided to cover the branding on this rotary file. I
created a table of contents for each lettered section using the Top 10 Cling Stamp
Set from Paper Wings Productions and blank cards. I also added some strips of
music note washi tape to the outer wheels of this file.
I
hope I have inspired you today. I'd love to know what your favorite song lyrics
are. Leave me a note in the comments section. As you may have realized, I
couldn't pick just one!

DeleteWow, what a great idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kathy!
DeleteThis would be a great gift to someone with memory issues. You could make one with their favorite lyrics and visit them regularly for a sing along.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! The back side of the cards are blank, so it would be a great place to record more memories or even add a photo.
DeleteThis is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Rae!
DeleteI've been listening practically non-stop to the Tom Petty channel on SiriusXM since he passed away. Right now my favorite song lyric is from his song Wildflowers: "You belong among the wildflowers, You belong in a boat out at sea, Sail away, kill off the hours, You belong somewhere you feel free".
