Stencil it! Wear it! Cool Cap with Belen of Art & Whimsy

Hi friends! Being able to add your own artistic flair to everyday wearable items is a fun way to express yourself. Today I'm going to share with you project that's easy and fun for the whole family.

For this project I used a plain white hat that I picked up at my local craft store,  acrylic paint mixed with fabric stabilizer, a couple of markers, and a few StencilGirl stencils.

The stencils that I used coming soon by Jennifer Evans:
  • Mid Century Modern Repeat (S587)
  • Mid Century Modern Mini (M211)
  • Meid Century Modern Rocks and Leaves (s586)
and

I started by masking off the area that I wanted to decorate with washi tape,  then gave that area a quick coat of gesso. Once that was dry, I sponged on some acrylic paint.

Next I used cosmetic wedges and the stencils to sponge on my design.

I decided to use the Scribble Scratch Handwriting stencil to give my hat a bit more of an urban flair. I also used markers to define some of the stenciled elements and add contrast.

Once everything was dry, I removed the washi tape and called it done. This is fun hat that I can wear out and about. Thank you for following along. I hope that I've managed to inspire you to make your own wearable art and Live Life In Color.

xo, Belen
