You asked for it. You got it.

Mary Beth Shaw and Seth Apter are mashing it up for StencilClub members for the third time!

You get these exclusive, cool-as-all-get-out stencils.

Mary Beth and Seth designed these with the use of an area, a line, or the entire design in mind.
    • The mini mask is all about a bit of chaos contained in a circle.
    • The small stencil, well, you may have a decision to make with this one. Cut the shape out from its square container or leave it be and allow the funky corners to pop with color or negative space.
    • The large stencil features movement on a grand scale with its swooping lines, crosses, dots, and fat hash marks.
These stencils ship to StencilClub members on the 15th of November and that same day members will get the exclusive technique video by Mary Beth and Seth along with a PDF. Both are downloadable.

Are you ready to have some fun? Oh good. See you in StencilClub!

The Feathered Tribe alights for February 2021 StencilClub

Gwen Lafleur's love of birds comes from her naturalist grandparents.

The Feathered Tribe Set combines Gwen's love of birds, travel, and pattern.

Join the StencilClub art community now and get these stencils (2/15/21 ship date) and Gwen's fabulous project when you sign up!

Three exclusive stencils for StencilClub members:

A Songbird perches on a single branch of the 9" x 12" stencil, while two birds perch on the lower branch, the bird with furled wings was inspired by the Australian Cuckoo, and the one with fluttering wings was inspired by Native America Tribal Art. Although the birds are tied together by flowering branches, you can mask them off and use them individually.

Three feather designs adorn the 6" x 6" stencil to use together, repeat in a row or use individually, perhaps as a border.

Use the pattern of the 4" x 4" to coordinate with the feathers and birds, as a repeating background, or use the individual elements.

    Exclusive to StencilClub members:
    • Start to finish technique video for creating the detailed painted image and vintage collage of the artwork, below left.
    • Gwen is including a printable with vintage images as well as the PDF!

These adorable mini collages and brightly colored embroidery with beading are two other ways Gwen used the hand-drawn stencils she created exclusively for StencilClub members.

Get all the perks of StencilClub membership when you sign up by February 15, 2021. Are you reading this post after that date? No worries! Current club members can order any past set and access the PDF and video that comes with it.

January 2021 StencilClub Revealed by Mary Beth

Mary Beth is mashing it up this month with herself. She took some of her absolutely favorite patterns and gave them new sizes and spins.

The 9" x 12" stencil is meant to be cut into 4 sections: leaves from Modern Tree, Ribbon and Basket Weaves, and representational DNA Strands. The latter 3 can be used to create a repeating pattern.

Lend your artwork perspective with the 6" x 6" stencil based on her large Hall Stencil.

Mary Beth's Mini X-Door inspired her to create the 4 triangles in a larger size for this 4" x 4" stencil. (Mad art scientist that she is, she does have a plan for using the stencil's positive space.)

The repeating design of the mini 4" x 4" is perfect as a base to create your own patterns.

Sit back and relax while Jill shows you what she has in store for StencilClub members.

StencilClub Voices take on the latest Mash-up!

    Hello Stencil Lovers!

Today on StencilGirl Talk our StencilClub Voices are taking on the Mary Beth Shaw Kristie Taylor Mash-Up Set for November 2020.

    You'll get inspired by:
    • a positively yummy mixed media art journal spread by Christy Anne - lots of little details in this one to catch your eye,
    • a beautifully stitched journal by Carolyn McGown - if you haven't combined sewing with stencils, this will make you want to give it a try,
    • a ragdoll cat,
    • and a nature journal filled with stenciled papers by Dee Spillane that is simply begging to be filled - you'll be inspired to take a walk and gather some fall leaves.

Christy Anne's Mixed Media Art Journal Spread

I chose to use one of the smaller of November’s set because it reminded me of direction. This whole layout was inspired by my inability to find a sense of direction in 2020. The faces represent my expressionless wandering about and the small stencil immediately looked like they were pointing to something.

Carolyn McGowan's Cat and Stitched Journal

My name is Carolyn McGowan and I am a mixed media artist from Cincinnati, Ohio.  I am excited to be selected for the StencilGirl StencilClub Voices for the November 2020 designs and have created two projects using the designs.

I love making tone on tone patterns for backgrounds. In my art journal, I used Liquitex red gesso as a base color and Liquitex Basics Cadmium Orange Hue acrylic paint stenciled through the large 9X12 design allowing the paint to pool in areas for added visual texture.  Since the orange is semi-translucent, the effect is subtle, providing a nice base for my page. I paper painted my ragdoll cat for the focal point and in case you are wondering, his tail really is that big!

For my second project, I incorporated sewing and stenciling making a traveler’s notebook cover.

Using a denim page cut from the Dina Wakley blue journal, I stenciled a combination of the 4 and 6-inch stencils using white, fuchsia, and yellow acrylic paints.

Sewing over the lines of the stenciled patterns repeatedly while also changing the stitch selection provided visual and physical texture. A free-motion foot helps by allowing me to sew in all directions (typically this is used in embroidery and quilting).

Final touches were added such as eyelets and twine to hold the signatures and a ribbon and snap to keep the journal pages secure.

I hope you enjoy creating with these great designs as much as I have.

    Dee Spillane's Nature Journal

Hi, Dee here. I am honored to be part of November StencilClub Voices. Boy, do I love them. The 4-inch stencil reminded me of a quilt pattern from many many years ago. I tried to remember how to turn it into baby blocks and urban. But I abandoned that to make a book.

First I made lots of Gelli prints and some prints with Pan Pastels.

Next, I cut the papers to 2.5 x 4.5 and folded them in half. I glued the wrong sides together to form signatures. I made covers and glued them to the first and last pages.

Now I have a tony nature journal to celebrate the season. I will add little things like leaves or other found objects and thoughts to complete it over the next month. I will keep it with me along with pens and glue so I am ready.

I hope you will try this too.

Revealed: The Shaw Taylor Mash-Up for November StencilClub

Mary Beth Shaw and Kristie Taylor have picked their faves and played with the sizes for a November 2020 StencilClub Mashup!

This exclusive set of stencils can stand alone or complement existing stencils you may already own in different sizes.

Diamond Dot is bigger and while it is not specifically a repeating stencil, it is easy to line up the dots for a repeating pattern.

Kristie loved Mary Beth's Tile Maze but wanted to use it as a background and so it evolved into a large stencil.

Mary Beth loves pattern and Kristie's Tri Textured Sheet Metal is now a larger pattern but in a mini stencil.

Kristie and Mary Beth are ready to tell you more about their Mash-Up set:

Here's a sneak peek of the beauty and techniques the two artists are sharing with club members on the 15th of November:

Stencils that will make your desk happy!

Just where is a push pin, rubber band, safety pin, paper clip, or staple when you need one?

Who needs office supplies when you have these patterned stencils handy?

These are sharp objects, and they're larger than life but nowhere as vastly oversized as Claus Oldenburg, the sculptor, would make them. Andrew's mini 4' x 4" Push Pin and Staple can be used singly or together.

A dropped box of push pins caused Andrew to look at them a pattern and this 6" x 6" stencil was born.

Ever needed to unbend a staple? The 6" x 6" Staples Stencil was inspired by the countless times that Andrew had to unbend or throw out the "bad" staples. When scattered across a piece of paper, they looked promising as a pattern that could be used on the paper.

Andrew thinks the fact that safety pins are springy and one has to squeeze to either expose or hide the sharp point is interesting but you won't need to worry about sharp tips with either of these stencils.

Choose from a scattering of safety pins in the 6" x 6" stencil or pick the mini 4" x 4" version when you want things orderly, plus there are 3 sizes to meet your needs.

Rubber bands are everywhere - in offices, in schools, at home, and at the grocery stores. They are available in varying sizes, and Andrew has created a montage of bands for an interesting effect of being scattered all over desk drawers.

Use the pattern of randomly distributed images in these 4" x 4" Rubber Band minis alone or as a pair for an interesting effect on any surface.

Andrew has created these two images of paper clips - as a stencil and as a mask in the mini 4" x 4" mini. He says, "They're larger than life but not as oversized as Claus Oldenburg, would make. The stencil (or the mask) is ideal for creating clips out of paper which are great as embellishments for the art journaling or scrapbooking project - it's flatter than the metal or plastic paper clips."

For the 6" x 6" Paper Clips Stencil, Andrew has come up with a design that allows you to either stencil an orderly pattern or to create a mask of paper clips.

Go ahead. Order some office supply stencils and make your desk happy.

    Great for art journaling too!
