Traci Bautista's Kaleidoscope Collection is here!

This stencil collection is inspired by the beauty and magic of the kaleidoscope toy you played with as a child.

These intricate stencil patterns were hand-drawn by artist Traci Bautista. The symmetrical abstract floral shapes can be used in a variety of different ways as you experiment. There is so much to discover and explore while you PLAY.

"Life is like a kaleidoscope....so many moments, experiences, emotions, and ideas that are constantly moving and changing through our journey," Traci says. "When you shuffle everything together the result is a beautifully rich and colorful image. When you look through a kaleidoscope you see a series of beautiful vibrant colors and patterns that sparkle. Then with the slightest twist, the pattern changes instantly...much like life."

The names in this collection of masks with stencils reflect her kaleidoscope theme and an associated abstract floral shape.

  • 1 Enchanted Protea
  • 2 Magic Dahlia
  • 3 Playful Starflower
  • 4 Spinning Peony
  • 5 Pattern Plumeria
  • 6 Infinite Rose,
  • 7 Sparkling Moraea
  • 8 Shifting Bromeliad

They are perfect to use to create layered backgrounds for art journals and canvases. Stack the stencils on top of each other or side by side to create new patterns over a gel plate and make multiple prints. Paint them with watercolor or spray with ink. Apply gesso or molding paste through the stencils using a palette knife to reveal textures then paint the dried gesso resist with watercolors.

Enchanted Protea, S876, 6” x 6”

Magic Dahlia, S877, 6” x 6”

Playful Starflower, S878, 6” x 6”

Spinning Peony, S879, 6” x 6”

Pattern Plumeria, S880, 6” x 6”

Infinite Rose, S881, 6” x 6”

Sparkling Moraea, S882, 6” x 6”

Shifting Bromeliad, S883, 6” x 6”

Traci used #tracibautistaCOLOR handmade watercolor and inks, gesso, molding paste, Golden so flat acrylics, and PaperArtsy paints in her Kaleidoscope Collection artwork.

New Portrait, Floral, and Mark-making Stencils by Jeanne Oliver

StencilGirl® is elated to introduce you to our newest stencil designer, Jeanne Oliver!

Jeanne is inspired by personal stories and her new line of six portrait stencils, along with several focused on mark-making and layers, will help you showcase your own mixed media story.

"Simple lines can often be the beginning of beautiful larger works of art and sometimes simple lines are all you need," artist and stencil designer Jean Oliver says. "Each stencil has been created to use in your art journals, in your hand stitching, or even in larger works of art. Let the stencil be the starting point and then see where it takes you."

These large 9" x 12" portrait-style stencils give you the perfect layer for spray paint or for a larger portrait piece. With spray paint, charcoal, acrylics, stitching, inks, or more you can begin to add beginning lines into your work. Repeat the portrait for a larger impact or extend the lines into a body for more drama. Don't be afraid to even just use a portion of the stencil and include it in your art journal.

Sweet Girl Face Large, L838

Hair bobbed and brushed, dress detailed with abstract bows and a striped collar, this young girl with a vintage look is dressed for her portrait in the Sweet Face Girl Large Stencil designed by Jeanne Oliver. Paint drips give this stencil a painterly look.

The woman in the Thoughtful Face Large Stencil is mindful and dreaming. It will be up to you as her portrait painter to decide how those dreams are revealed.

Jeanne Oliver’s Garden Face Stencil depicts a woman as ageless as her blooming garden with unruly hair, kind eyes, and a bit of a smile.

Jeanne says, "Create the portrait and then consider stitching the floral design in the background! The possibilities are endless."

The Small Portraits

These 6” x 6” portrait-style stencils are perfect for your art journal and daily practice. With simple marks, you can begin to add layers and texture.

"This is a fun size to start with charcoal and then with a blending stick start to add those underlayers to your work," Jeanne says. "Come in with acrylics, spray paint, watercolors, Neocolor II, or more and bring your portrait to life."

Kind Face Small Stencil, S863

Is she a girl or a woman with her unruly hair and the ghost of a smile? You as the painter will decide when you begin with the Kind Face Small Stencil.

Alone with her thoughts, is the woman looking outward or within?

Sweet Face Girl Small Stencil, S859

A young girl dressed up for her portrait in a bygone era when you had to stand still and not smile for the camera.

Taken directly from Jeanne Oliver’s mark-making and abstract work you can use her Abstract Marks Stencil to incorporate these marks into your own art.

The Garden Spray and Bramble Stencil designed by Jeanne Oliver can become the background of your portraits, still-life works all on their own, or add texture and layers into your current work. Whether you use spray paint, charcoal, acrylic, inks, modeling paste, or your favorite medium each floral element will add simple and loose lines to your work. The floral elements on this stencil may be cut apart for ease of use.

Mark Making with Floral Embellishments Stencil, S860

"Creating repetitive marks within my work is one of my favorite ways to bring line and form," Jeanne says.

This stencil is wonderful for art journaling or adding to the body or background of a portrait. You may wish to cut this stencil in half for ease of use.

Discover all of Jeanne Oliver's stencils right here.

Gathered is a mixed media class Jeanne is teaching that includes these stencils.

NEW STENCIL DESIGNERS! Ann Barnes & Helen Shafer Garcia

StencilGirl Products is excited about the six new stencils our two new artists, Ann Barnes and Helen Shafer Garcia have designed.

We are so happy you are here to check out Ann's whimsical patterned alphabet and Helen's beautiful succulents. Drumroll, please!

The multitude of patterns found among many of the StencilGirl stencil designs inspired Ann Barnes to create the ATC Mixup Alphabet A-I, J-R, and S-Z Stencils. Each letter has a different pattern and may be used to create personalized stationery or gift wrap or to add a monogram. Use the letters to spell out a word, or simply use that pattern itself to create interest in your art journal layouts or designs.

Complete your alphabet now.

Helen Shafer Garcia says she is always looking for seedling and sprig shapes to include in her paintings and journal.

Helen says, “I love the upward growth of plants in my garden. I constantly draw and paint succulents and other plants with pencils and paint. I designed these shapes based on seed pods and new growth on succulents. They can also represent ocean plants and seedlings. Now, with the Filigree Sprigs Stencil, you have a great resource to use to explore and grow!”

Filigree Sprigs, L822

Filigree Sprigs Dropped in Color Forest Painting
Step 1: Stencil the design onto hot pressed watercolor paper. I overlapped the images to create a forest.
Step 2: Wet the entire surface with Cadmium yellow watercolor paint.
Step 3: While the paint is very wet and shiny, drop in other colors. I used Quinacridone Rose, Spring Green, and Carbazole Purple. The Carbazole purple was the last color I dropped in under the sprigs to create a “forest floor.”

The Echeverias Stencil design derived from Helen’s fascination with succulent shapes.

Helen says, “These plants have been the main focus for many of my paintings in watercolor. Echeverias have rosette shapes with a large range of colors. Here in Southern California, I have an advantage of living in the best environment for these plants. Needless to say, I have an abundance of succulents on my 1half-acre property. The shapes on the stencil are separated out for you to design your own arrangement. You can add a ceramic pot or go wild and plant them in the ground!”

Blooming Echeverias Painting
Step 1: Stencil the shapes you have selected onto hot pressed watercolor paper using a fairly dark color acrylic.
Step 2: Using a large round watercolor brush, wet the background with plenty of water. While the surface remains wet, drop in colors. I used Carbazole Purple and Ultramarine Blue. Let the colors mingle on their own, allow the water to move the colors.
Step 3: Start painting the succulent shapes separately using the dropped-in color method. Start with a light warm color on the shape and drop-in cooler colors to show the darker areas.
Step 4: Finish up with glazes: paint over dry painted areas with darker colors where needed.

This ballet of shapes will have you dancing in no time. The Echeveria Ballet Stencil design was derived from Helen’s fascination with succulent shapes. Echeverias have rosette shapes with a large range of colors. The seed pods are abstracted in the stencil for you to use as accents.
