'Live Gently' a mixed media Layout by Sunila and Aditi (aka Dots to Lines)

Hello,

We are so happy to be back on the blog as guest designers. It's always a pleasure creating for StencilGirl Products®.

Today we've played with layers and stencils and created a fall inspired mixed media style layout. We have a little step by step pictorial for you all as well.

Here's a look at the Layout:

Step 1: We started off with a white 12"x12" cardstock and Lindy's magicals. We smooshed the green colour on the background and dried it. We then mixed our yellow and raspberry with 3D gel medium and spread it in layers with a mini brayer. This gave us the texture and dimension.

Step 2: With the colours still wet, we used our first stencil- Arrows within Rounds by Andrew Borloz (S797) and rubbed in with a baby wipe. This took away the colour from our base and left a nice stencil imprint.

Step 3: We used our custom yellow and raspberry texture paste and spread it through our next stencil- Art Deco Fairview by Natalie Kalbach (L755).

Step 4: Next, we added splatter using the same colours, but only mixed with water this time.

Step 5: For the next layer we used a stencil from the ATC Mixup Set by Pam Carriker (L651) and drew in with a white pen. From the same set, we used another pattern with black ink and brought in our contrast.

Step 6: With our background layers in place, we then coloured a few die cuts, picket out elements from our stash and created a composition to complete the layout.

Here are a few close ups

Stenciled Child's Play Day Dress by Sunila & Aditi

Hello and welcome,

Today it is Sunila and Aditi here to share our 'Wearable' creation with you. This theme is always fun because it helps us use our stencils to create something fun that can be a part of the wardrobe. Last year we created and embroidered a skirt we still love.

This time we decided to fancy up our little one's dress to create a fun play day dress.

Here's a look at it.

Here's a quick video sharing the process:

We've used the Play Everyday Dress Up L599 stencil by Cat Kerr. We took an imprint of the image and the phrases on our dress by dabbing Black and Blue Acrylic paint on the front and back of the dress.

We then used beads and sequins to highlight the dress, some words and the strings of the swing. This adds a pop and uplifts our dress.

On the back, we decided to merely stencil acrylic paint and achieve a shadow effect scene.

Supplies used
Dina Wakley- Black and Night Acrylic
Beads, Sequins

We hope you've enjoyed our creation!
Happy crafting!

Matisse Inspired Journal by Sunila & Aditi

Hello,

Hope you are well! Today we are back with another tutorial for you! This month's theme Pastiche is very interesting. It allows us the freedom to imitate the style of another artist.

For our project, we were inspired by Henri Matisse's artwork. We love the use of vibrant colors and collage layers.

We decided to create a journal page and here's a look at our page.

Here's the video tutorial to create this page:

We wanted to use stencil layers to mimic the cut-out effect of his paintings. We created a vibrant background with paint and stencil layers. We've used the following stencils- M232 Twisting Beach Grass by Trish mcKinney, S325 Seoul Night by Daniella Woolf, S509 Pixels by Rae Missigman, L736 Leafy Doodle Border by Valerie Sjodin and L764 Celtic Sprirals Mask by Valerie Sjodin.

We added our Matisse Signature focal using the stencil L725 A Conversation with Matisse by Carolyn Dube.

Supplies used:

Dina Wakley Acrylics- Lemon, Cheddar, Sedona, Ruby, Olive, Evergreen, Lapis

Hope you've enjoyed this project!

Hugs,

Shadow Box Key Holder by Sunila & Aditi

Hello,

Hope you are all well! Sunila and Aditi here with a mixed media home decor project.

While we were brainstorming what to create (since we've done too many trays, and coasters and all those things), we found a box at home. This is supposed to be a napkin holder, however, we decided to create something else.

We changed the position a bit and decided to turn it into a shadow box and create a key holder. The idea of the shadow box seemed useful because that space can hold bills, posts, and anything else that we'd like apart from the keys. An easy solution that can be hung by the door.

Here's a look at our final piece:

We were inspired to use our new nature theme stencils for this project. That made it easy to choose our color palette and create a little garden of sorts.

If you'd like to create one for your home, here's the video tutorial:

This project involves layering stencils with texture pastes and stenciled focal elements. We've used the following stencils- L736 Leafy Doodle Border by Valerie Sjodin , L712 Lattice Medallion by Kristie Taylor, S482 Bare Branch Thicket by Trish McKinney; all these are in keeping with our nature theme.

Here are a few close-ups:

Passage of Life-Mixed Media Layout by Sunila & Aditi

Hello,

Today we're here to share our creation of the month. The theme 'Passage' can be interpreted in so many ways. To us, it spoke about this passage from my side to another- life to death. This journey is what he chose to depict in our layout today. We decided to give a tribute to a famous Indian actor that recently passed away.

We have a video tutorial for this layout:

With this layout, we intended to use stencils and ink layers to create a background, highlight our photo with minimal embellishment. The multiple layers and colors, add the depth and dimension we wanted for the background with using any other textures.  We began with the Celtic Spirals Mask by Valerie Sjodin(L764) to add spirals and circles depicting life all over. We used a part of the Prairie Style Window (L709) to divide our layout into two segments.

We were inspired to use the stencil Train Station by Tina Walker (S682) behind our focal photo to create the illusion of the physical world and traveling inward. We also used City Map  by Mary Nasser(S693) to add more dimensions depicting pathways.

We used the ladder ATC stencil from the set ATC Mixup Wiebe (L710) depicting travel to the other side, on the right side of our layout. The small 4" stencil from the stencil club set March Mashness 2020 was used to add abstract interest to our background.

We've played with color layers, and then added some chipboards and die cuts to embellish it all. Do check out the tutorial to see how we did that.

We hope we've inspired you today!
Hugs,

Typography Inspired Graffiti ATCs by Sunila & Aditi

Hello,

We hope you're all doing good! Today we're here with a mixed media tutorial on creating some bold and snarky Artist Trading Cards. This month, the theme typography instantly made us think of graffiti art.  So inspired by that, we decided to use bold colors, abstract layers, text, and some snarky messages for our project today.

Here's a look at our cards:

Here's our process video for you to craft along:

We used a whole lot of stencils for these layers. The helped us add the element of letters, numbers as well as the abstract patterns we wanted for our background. The stencils we've used are:\

Kyoto Stencil
ATC Mix-Up Evans
Celtic Spirals
Here are the close-ups of our cards:

We hope you've enjoyed our project today!
